When is taking the high ground a bad response?

I have recently been getting in trouble, socially, for talking about taking the high grounds in an opportunity of bringing/showing/teaching peace/love/appropriate behavior. There is no instance that comes to mind where taking the high road the wrong choice. Have you come across one of these instances?

I've recently acquired that book as a hand-me-down but have yet to read it. But your ending statement is the truest thing I can think of. Just don't go to war. To me, that's taking the higher road after all. Not participating, turning the other cheek
