Rick Wagoner is reportedly resigning from GM. WITH A $20 MILLION RETIREMENT PACKAGE. Didn't Obama say that pay for CEOs would be capped at $500K?

I'll post this here, so Fish's post gets fair play (plus, this is basically the same topic).

Cold War Baby recently wrote some excellent stuff on Amanda Severn's health care rights hub:

Among CWB's points in support of universal health care were a series of interesting quotes from our history regarding our freedoms and the influence of capitalism.  I'd be interested in hearing reactions or interpretations from the financial and political types out there--from both sides of the aisle--in regards to our present situation (and, ie, the specific news incident related by Fishskin):

"I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies." — Thomas Jefferson

"If the American people ever allow the banks to control issuance of their currency, first by inflation and then by deflation, the banks and corporations that grow up around them will deprive the people of all property until their children will wake up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered." — Thomas Jefferson

"We have come to be one of the worst ruled, one of the most completely controlled and dominated governments in the civilized world. We are no longer a government by free opinion, no longer a government by conviction and the vote of the majority, but a government by the opinion and duress of a small group of dominate men. I have unwittingly betrayed my country." — President Woodrow Wilson, 1916

Three quotes I can understand and agree with. Did you view that 3 hour long video "The Money Masters" that I posted a while back? It gave a great historical account of the creation of the the "banking system".
