   Do you put your child in cold water to reduce a high temperature?
   
   Have you ever done this?  Was there any side effects?

   Our family doctor said it should only be done by a doctor. He told us to just lay cold wet towels over the body of the child and to make sure all clothing was removed. Even this isn't needed unless fever is very high in which case the child should be seen by a doctor anyway. A temperature is a good thing most times because it means the body is doing what it is suppose to be doing.

   You should only allow a doctor to do that. Bringing their temp down too quickly or suddenly can send them into shock.

   When my daughters were younger their peditrician suggested luke warm water and if we didn't feel comfortable doing that they lay wet towels on their forhead.

   A luke warm bath is all that you need. You do not want the baby or child to be shivering. If they are shivering, then their body is working hard to generate heat and you are working against yourself.

   No. A fever is the body's natural way to stave off infection or virus. When my child is uncomfortable from fever, we use motrin or tylenol to bring the fever down. If we were trying to break a persistent one, we would apply cool cloths in addition to the above meds. Sudden cold or exteme transition would be dangerous!
