How do you react when someone has a misconception about your culture and traditions?
Do you try to explain or just let them believe what they want, especially if they are stubborn and refuse to listen.
Strange but thirty minutes ago this very thing happened to me ! I was in a queue at the vetrinaires when I got into conversation with a man from Ghana. He started to tell me things like how British people knew little about the affairs of Africa ! Was he correct, not really. I didn't like to think that we were so shallow and anyway I meet lots of 'internationalists who live only for knowledge of other cultures. I told him that when it was the Gold Coast My brothers friend went to live there and helped ,in his employment to open a newspaper office.
I also told him that President Joshua Nkoma from Zimbawe was at one time a resident of Toxteth,Liverpool.
I asked him if he knew of the channel Isles, He did, he surprised me by saying that it was shameful that they,Educaters in the Channel Isles, neglected to inform and educate the students/children about the occupation by the Nazis. He was correct.
We were both correct but I think he had the edge on me!! I think he was a professor.Too bad his turn came to be attended to as I was delighted to meet somebody so interesting......
You are the best of people raised up, for you call to all that is right and righteous and you forbid the evil, and you believe in Allah.
[Qur'an 3:110]
First i will try to explain to them.
Take special care in offer your answers. Keep your replies simple and to the point. Do not wander from subject to subject while answering a question.
Another important point is to remember that patience is an important part of the character of the Muslim and that you must not become angry or outraged at what people say to you or by the quesitons that they are asking. If you feel that it is too much for you to deal with, then simply walk away.
If there is a misconception about my culture I just inform the person about their misconception. I tell them about the culture and if they want to listen great, if not, that is fine with me, I have many things to do that to try to talk to someone who does not want to listen.
Best wishes.

It occured to me the other day that I have a shocking gap in my knowledge. What is it? Apart from a few film themes, I couldn't name a single piece of music composed in the 21st century !!! Not even one! Although I could name a few celebrity pop stars like Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber and Beyonce, I...
