Has anyone heard of the varnashram system?

According to the varnashram system there are four stages of life and four social orders. Could some one tell me what they are and eplain if they could work in this modern day?

Varnashrama system is an ideal proposed social system of Indian(Hindu) origin and entails the dividing of four distinct casts or groups of people in which all are said to be placed.   Priests and scholars, royalty, merchants and laborers make up the four casts. In our own system of society the reverse seems apparent, with royalty(Rich and powerful) first, next, the merchants(Especially bankers), laborers, and last(in lack of respect )ministers of the gospel and other religious faiths. Of course, the cast system was established by the powerful so that all had to accept it or if not, then, suffer the consequences. Modern times seem to be unstable and the economy is on shaky ground. The Feudal system of the Europeans came closest to the Varnashrama System. with royalty, merchants, laborers(serfs). Although interesting in its makeup, the system would not be appropriate in most societies in today's world. Communism in a few countries tries to emulate this system in an abbreviated form.

Thank you for your answer. This is what I was taught as well. It does seem like the system is backwards at present.
      Best wishes

We knowingly or unknowingly often forced to follow that social order as it must be the rule of nature.
