I lived in a caravan for 5 years! It and we didn't move anywhere, we lived in it because it was cheap housing for us while we went to college.

Sounds wonderful. You Aussies can do things like this in such a wild and wondrous country - not too much bureaucracy to get through I hope!
I was offered a battered old caravan once, high up on a Spanish mountain, rent free. The only trouble was I had a whole family to keep, no transport and little cash. But the views were fantastic!

The short answer is "lots and lots of people"....  Here in the States, there are lots of folks living in their caravan (Recreational Vehicle, RV here).  Mostly retired folks who have an RV and travel South to North US avoiding the winters of the north and the heat of the south during the summer.  Many temporary workers move from site to site over a multiple month period, will live in their trailers for years at a time.  My wife and I just finished a program called Workampers helpers.  We are given a free seasonal site at a campground whilst we work a few part time hours for the campground to pay for our visit.  Works out for everyone.
