QUICK BIO: TOM Z

My parents were of mixed heritage: male and female.

Um...despite this rocky beginning, I've spent my life so far as a radio announcer and radio industry spokesperson, software marketing director, musician, social media blog-writer and content creator, writer/columnist for radio trade magazines, AND a non-boring college instructor at a major university in Connecticut, USA.

I am often asked to MC or do special presentations on topics involving media, social media, radio or pop culture. But that's about it, though.

ON THE AIR, OFF THE AIR: I was a radio DJ (in the 60's & 70's), then...

>> A studio engineer at WABC & WPLJ radio in New York City (in the 70's), then...

>> A nationwide radio programming consultant (in the 80's & 90's).

>> Spent 14 years as head writer / director of marketing & PR for Radio Computing Services, Inc. (RCS) the world's largest radio software company (1993 - 2006). In fact, I still host a radio program every weekend (see below).

>> I've visited 49 states (Alaska), and have spoken at radio industry events throughout the USA and the UK, the Netherlands, Singapore and Australia.

OVER 1,000 EVENTS: As a mobile DJ in the 80's and 90's I entertained at over a thousand wedding receptions, anniversaries, picnics, parties, boat launchings, nightclubs and yes, even divorce parties!

WHAT DJs & ANNOUNCERS LEARN:

(1) Everyone's musical taste is different.

(2) Respect all musical genres because each has millions of legitimate fans, but that said, learn the most popular titles in each genre and focus on those.

(3) All SUCCESSFUL musical performers create a "mashup" of art, science, psychology, culture...and music.

CURRENT POSITIONS

(1) Western Connecticut State University, Danbury, CT USA. Adjunct professor, Communication Dept. and Marketing Dept. Faculty advisor for campus station WXCI-FM & WXCI.org. www.wcsu.edu

(2) "The Weekend Wakeup Show", WJMJ Radio, Hartford CT: Host/DJ, Saturdays, WJMJ 88.9FM & www.WJMJ.org, 6AM to Noon.

Hobbies: Music, History, Geography, Tennis... and Pizza.
