HubPages Marks the Spot Begins TODAY!
And the HubPages Crew has a new Privateer
Happy September!
This is a new month full of exciting beginnings for everyone - kids go back to school, wardrobes shift, and HubPages embarks on a new contest!
Indeed, today marks the launch of our September contest: HubPages Marks the Spot. I hope you'll join in on the swashbuckling fun. The location-based hubs that qualify for this contest are incredibly easy to write and the prizes are quite bountiful- two people will be winning $50 each day, plus there will be two $100 winners every week, and one Grand HubBucaneer who shall win $500 at the end of the month!
HubPages Marks the Spot is not our only exciting new addition this month. We've also been joined by an amazing new PR expert - Pia Chatterjee - who is profiled in our Hubber-to-Hubber Interview below. We're so excited to have her on our team; she's going to help the world see just how amazing the HubPages community is!

The Map Capsule

Use the Map Capsule for HubPages Marks the Spot
The star of our September contest, which is all about describing and mapping local treasures, is without a doubt the Map Capsule.
In fact, entries without a Map Capsule will not qualify, hence it's important that you know how to use it!
Not to worry- we have a very thorough guide to using the Map Capsule, complete with a video tutorial at the end, in our Learning Center. We hope you find it helpful, and have a lot of fun using it as your write location-based hubs this month!

An Interview with Pia Chatterjee - HubPages' New PR Pro!
Our newest team member finds the perfect blend of social, financial and creative benefits on HubPages
What sparked your interest in the Public Relations profession?
I stumbled into Public Relations by accident. I’d always believed that I’d work in publishing or in a bookshop - something very literary. But no one wanted to hire me in such jobs! I guess I did not have the right personality. So I took the first job I was offered. And that was in Public Relations.
It’s now been my career for over 7 years. I’ve enjoyed every day of it – it’s never dull, I get to read extensively, I get to write all day long and hang out with very interesting people.
Work and HubPages aside, do you write much for fun?
Yes. I’ve just finished a novel and signed with an agent.
What inspired you to join the HubPages team?
As a PR specialist, writer and blogger, I never thought I’d have a chance to blend all my passions into one job- until I joined HubPages. I love the fact that now I get to serve the writing community and draw attention to all our wonderful hubbers.
What do you think makes HubPages unique as a social content site?
HubPages allows writers to retain ownership of their creations and enables them to earn an income from it. As a writer, I realize how critical both these things are to the writing community. Plus, Hubbers get to connect and communicate with each other through the hubs. Writing can be a lonely pursuit and community support is critical.
I love the fact that HubPages offers this perfect blend of social, financial and creative benefits.
Where's the strangest place you've ever been?
Oh my! I’ve been to a lot of places that most people would consider odd. I loved visiting Uzbekistan, for instance, which is a jaw-droppingly gorgeous country. I also adored camping in a yurt along the Karakoram highway, which connects Pakistan to China.
I share my interest in strange destinations with my husband, with whom I’ve travelled to the ancient caves of Turkey, the salt desert of Bolivia and the swamps of Brazil.
Each of these places is phenomenal, and I’d love to go back to them, if I can.
Is there anything you'd like to say to the community in general?
Hub on!

This Week's HubNuggets
This week's HubNuggets Hub takes is on a Wild West HubNuggets Round-Up. It ain't easy getting promising hubs in the the HubPages Tutorials and Community, Technology, and Education and Science categories all in one place, but it sure is worth it, as you'll see from the mighty fine winners below.
Sadly, our favorite Jackalope, B.T. Evilpants is riding off into the sunset (or in its hypothetical direction) after this one - this is his last HubNuggets Hub - but we're sure glad for the fun times and crazy adventures we had together! Happy Trails, to you, Mr. Evilpants- until we meet again!
