October 17, 2018. INTRO, & PRO TIPS

Happy October from the HubPages team!

A Sweet Contest Announcement

We have a very special treat for you, just in time for the holiday (no tricks, we promise). Write an informative article by Wednesday, October 24th celebrating the month of ghouls and goblins for a chance to have your article featured on our blog and social media channels. Submit your work to contests@hubpages.com, and our staff will choose the top three that they really want to sink their teeth into. The winners will be announced in our Halloween newsletter on October 31st, so keep your eyes peeled (literally).

Some topic ideas:

  • Things to do on Halloween
  • Creative crafts or costume tutorials
  • Spooky recipes
  • A Thriller-worthy playlist

“Recommended” Content Announcement

We would like to address the collective concern regarding the “Recommended” content that has started to show up on article pages. This is a brand new technology, personalized to each individual to drive engagement. Due to a bug, there has been unwanted content popping up for some of you. Your feedback has offered some valuable data, and allowed us to disable such suggestive material. We appreciate your patience, and will continue to update the community as information becomes available.

A Very (Pet) Helpful Feature

Also, be on the lookout for our latest cutting-edge feature: a PetHelpful-specific disclaimer for “Your Money Your Life” (YMYL) content. YMYL content is held to high editorial standards due to its ability to impact the current and future well-being of people, as well as the animals they care for or interact with.

This disclaimer will only be visible to signed-in users before the release date, and can be individually disabled in the HubTool by authors. We realize not every article will need such a feature, and editors will turn them off accordingly over time. Authors may also choose to disable the disclaimer on non-YMYL articles before it goes public on October 31st, 2018. PetHelpful is just the first site to have this feature, and other sites will likely follow.

We encourage the use of this tool in lieu of author-created, in-text disclaimers across our Network Site to promote cohesive and intelligible content across all articles. We hope to create a sense of security for our community’s authors, readers and visitors.
