What should I do with a cat that is constipated?

I just took a cat from a refuge as an adoptive family, but the cat seems to be constipated. I've been told to give him oils, or some laxative. Is there anything else I can do?

Get both hands around it's head, firmly hold it's ass down to the ground, then squeeze down to the but, and the shit should fly out!!

Best thing for a cat is cod liver oil.  It will clear any potential hair ball causing blockage...and they happen to like it, so it's not difficult to get them to take it.  Put it in a teaspoon and let them lick it out.

Beyond that...I avoid dry catfood and stick to canned, moist food which seems to keep my cat in good condition.

    Hope that helps.

SpencerAllen you should be ashamed of yourself, although it did make me laugh!

Actually what spencer said is sort of true. I think its done when grooming, but i don't think you would do that if its constipated...
