Your dog could have an underlying reason for the constipation. He could of swallowed something that is causing a blockage or some other form of obstruction. Never use any kind of "people" medication for your pets without first consulting your vet, they can be toxic.
If your dog has a clog at his rear-end due to matted hair, you must clear it immediately. We had a dog die from that because we didn't notice it in time. It is a mess to fix but you will save the dogs life. Soak his rear in water to soften the mess. then work it off slowly with a rubber-gloved hand.
