Do lots of online research about breeds first. Check the top ten list of dogs that bite and don't get one of those. Find out which characteristics each breed has and compare that to what you are looking for in a dog.
Think about getting a dog from a rescue instead of a puppy. They usually are already neutered and up to date on shots. The foster can tell you if the dog has any behavior problems.

The hubby and I can't decide whether we should neuter our puppy. I have read both pros and cons of neutering online and it seems there are complications to both such as neutering too early can cause development issues and certain cancers and not neutering can cause roaming and prostate cancer....
