   How do I get fleas out of a Lizard's tank?
   
   I don't want to accidentally poison her while getting rid of the fleas (that don't seem to border her!?)!

   I just checked and cedar will kill reptiles, and rodents.

   This site should be able to help you find out. They mentioned something called Skoosh? This is a reptile site though. I am surprised that she doesn't eat them.

   Remove the lizard for a while - go to walmart or a big grocery store and buy a Hot Shot no pest strip

   Put it in the lizard tank for 3 - 5 days. After it is aired out for a day you can replace the lizard.
   
   This will also work for fleas in dog bedding and on the dog if you crate the dog with the no pest strp in his crate but with good ventilation.

   Just clean the tank. Do not use any pesticides or cedar. Remove any porous objects that may harbor the fleas. Get a tight-fitting fine mesh lid. That should fix the problem. Treat your carpets for fleas. That's where they are coming from.

   Cedar is a bog No-No for any reptile . It could kill it . Reptiles don't get fleas so I wonder what you are seeing . Lizards do get mites and can get very sick and die from that . You have to take everything out and clean it thoroughly . Anything that you can desinfect has to go . Do not use any bedding but newspaper that you change every day. Clean the tank , especially all the nooks and corners every day . If you see mites on the lizard , rub vegetable oil all over the lizard - that will suffocate the mites and dab off with paper towels and to that every day . Now the question is , how did your lizard get them in the first place ?

      If you have cats, or even dogs and they are able to get close to the tank, like my cats like to lay on top of the tank, the fleas jump right in there. You'd think they'd die off tho with nothing to eat but here we are..

   Fleas do not feed on reptiles, they are strictly mammal (and sometimes bird) parasites. If your reptile has little black "bugs" in her cage, they may be mites. In which case, I would give an entirely different answer.
   
   If they are just fleas and are only using the lizard's cage as a breeding ground, clean the cage thoroughly soap and hot water. All ornaments in the cage should be either thrown out, soaked in bleach and washed off completely, or sent through the dish washer (my favorite choice). All bedding should be thrown out. If the bedding you use happens to be Repti-carpet, put that in the dish washer as well.
   
   A couple of other people here have suggested ceder chips and pest strips. Please REFRAIN from using these items as both have been proven to kill reptiles, who are much less tolerant to chemical smells than us mammals.

   It sounds like the fleas are in the tank's environment, not on your little pet?  A friend and I came back from an island trip itching like crazy from sand fleas. Needless to say, we wanted to get them out of our towels and clothes, but weren't sure if the washing machine would do the trick. A pharmacist friend suggested wrapping the offending objects in plastic; he said fleas need air to survive, and they would die with no access to it.  We actually tried it, and the fleas weren't in our clothing or towels after that.
   
   Maybe you can put your pet in a separate place and wrap the tank to get rid of them  (also get rid of any rocks or sand in the tank and add fresh furnishings for her).
