At what age are female domestic cats first able to breed, and do they show signs of being in season?
I have a couple of 6-7 month old female kittens that decided to come and live with me. I've always had boy cats in the past and not too familiar with the female reproductive cycle. Can any experts out there enlighten me?
cats, both male and female, can breed as early as 4 months of age. sometimes their first heats are quiet and you cant even tell they are in heat. other times they make you painfully aware that they are in heat. most cats in heat become extra loving, though a few become extra irritable and aggressive. just like human women, cats tend to synchronize...when you have two or more females they will eventually go into heat close to the same time. most vets will now spay and neuter cats at 4 months of age to prevent unwanted kittens being born.
thanks for the info. I have mine booked in at the vets for next week - hope I'm not too late!
good luck, i hope so to. watch their tummies. they will look fat and nipples start to pooch out if pregnant, though it is still possible to have the kittens aborted and the cats fixed. if you have the strength to do it. not sure i would.
I once had a kitten, around 12 weeks old get pregnant. It was a nightmare! She batted those kittens around like toys and I had to hold her down to feed them sometimes and as soon as I got those kittens eating I found them a home! And that cat too!
