What’s makes a stray dog want to bite you if you maintain a direct eye contact with it?
They see direct eye contact that is maintained as a challenge, just as they would if another dog was staring at them directly in the eyes. They perceive it as threatening and will react accordingly. Never stare a dog you don't know in the face, it can have really bad results.
Not all stray dogs who maintain direct eye contact choose to bite you. Many times dogs act out of fear and unfamiliarity of who you are. They can perceive as a challenge; however the actions come from instinct and fear of the unknown itself.
