Toilet waterfall, Another Fascinating of Installation Art
This time I’ll write about another beautiful of art. I talk about installation art. Actually I had described the meaning of installation art. It’s kind of three-dimensional art works, this art was designed to transform the perception of a space. But, can you imagine if the toilet applied into a beautiful “installation art”. As an installation work, it is needed a big space. I’ll show to all of you how the toilet changed into beautiful art work as “toilet waterfall”. This was a bizarre art project I’ve ever know in China.
I’ll take you to the toilet world, where we can see a lot of toilets turned into beautiful art work. I know that we have a bad imagination about toilet. Toilet is a plumbing fixture for defecation and urination. Because toilet related with something dirty. There’s no end for creativity. There are many creative people in the world. They try to communicate their idea into beautiful art like this one and try to send a message to us.
Waterfall is always beautiful, especially "natural waterfall". But can you imagine take a walk around the artificial waterfall made by millions toilets and sinks. Actually this waterfall was built in October 2009 by Shu Yong, the local artist. It was built for the Pottery and Porcelain Festival in Foshan, in southern China’s central Guangdong province (about three hours from Hong Kong). The right place is at Shiwan Park. This art installation was the highlight of the 16th China International Ceramic & Sanitaryware Fair Foshan. This event was held from October 18 to 22, 2010. I heard that Foshan is being China’s capital for porcelain. I think we all know that China itself is a famous country with porcelain, including cookware. Foshan is a city with 5.5 million inhabitants.
There’s something great about this festival. I heard the organizers of this festival decided to leave the toilet waterfall as a public art installation. The hidden mission of this festival is raising the “people awareness” about the important of recycling and water waste.
From trusted information, the toilet waterfall was completed in two months. It consists of 10,000 recycled toilets, sinks and urinals were collected from factories and also donated by foreigners. These toilets were the fail products which were given by the toilet manufacturer. With huge dimensions about 100 meter long and 5 meter height. Personally, this was not just a "fun festival" with beautiful art work but also this was a clever idea to draw the world’s eyes to Foshan. It has become such a popular attraction as the commitment from the organizers as a public recreation.
I know that this art will get many reactions from the people and also various comments. Start from “cool”, “convenient”, and even these comments like: “gross” and “disgusting”. How about you? From the pictures we can see how the water flow amazing from recycled toilets, sinks and urinals.
Bonus: Another amazing art, "Bubble woman" breast sculpture.
This may not relate to the title of this hub. But I write this as the bonus. I think most of us love "bonus", including this one. This is the largest breast I’ve ever seen in my life. Don’t worry, this wasn’t the real breast. It’s just a gigantic sculpture named “Bubble Woman”. It’s like a blowing up balloons.
Actually, there's a small woman attached behind this sculpture. But, I can't show this in the picture. But you can watch this woman from the video. I hope you still enjoy this bonus as the part of the art installation in Foshan. The location of this sculpture is in the same are with toilet waterfall. This sculpture was created by Shu Yong. He was inspired by the advertisement for breast enlargements on television and in the newspaper.
