Any tips on jewelry photography?
I'm planning to start an online jewelry store on my facebook page but I can't seem to get the right photo to showcase the details of the design. need some tips on how to effectively capture the details of jewelry. i'm using a point and shoot cam.
I think the background is important. Find some interesting textures like rocks, woven mats, etc.to lay the jewelry on.
Also try for natural light whenever possible. Just go outside for your photo shoot.
Visit Etsy and see some examples there.
I agree with Jimmie on natural lighting. To take natural lighting a step further go outside with the jewelry on a human model and have them stand in a shady area instead of harsh sunlight. Take a few different shots, some up close for detail and some further back. If you let your potential buyers know what it looks like worn it may make them more willing to buy your products! I also agree about finding interesting textures to lay your jewelry on. Last thing shade, shade, shade so you don't get crazy shadows or lighting in your photo of your jewelry. Hope my comment is helpful!
I wrote a hub about this last month:

Let me know if you have any questions or need help with anything that I didn't cover.
Good luck!
Focus on lighting techniques to bring out real colours. If you're willing to take outdoor photos, here is my hub http://hubpages.com/hub/Outdoor-photography-basics (also works on artificial lighting).

What would you say are the pros and cons of etsy? Do a lot of actual shoppers go there or is it mainly artists selling to other artists?

Sometimes people don't want to see the whole slide show.
