What do you think makes a great artist?
Is an artist truly great if they master the techniques that are used during the artist's time? Or, is a great artist someone who develops a new style? Is there a point when artists may be doing too many new things instead of having collective styles?
The word "Great" is a big word that is very difficult to define. Does great mean one make's money from there work? or Does it mean one find's an inner fulfillment with their gift? Following your heart and using your gift would be mine interpretation of greatness....
I think the thing that makes a great artist is that they fully appreciate their gift and use it. Not necessarily to make money but to make others happy. Nothing makes me feel good about myself and my gift as seeing a smile come across anothers face when they are given one of my pieces.
What I look for in a great artist is obvious visual passion and display of technique in the work. If I can't understand or feel what the artist was feeling or getting at, I will be just confused and lost.
A Great artist is anyone who follows their passion. Art of course is subjective, I might think an artist is incredible and inspiring, while another person would look at their work and say meh.
