Who are your favorite painters/artists? (From Impressionism to the Present)
My favorites are Klimt, Monet, Dali, Picasso, Pollack, Munch, and Van Gogh. Please share yours.
Norman Rockwell is my number one favorite, Monet, Dega, Manet and Cassett to name a few.
Joan Miro is a favourite - playful, colourful, shapely and fascinating work - both sculptor and painter he used lots of natural things to inspire his unusual sculptures. His friends say he would go on long walks into the countryside and return with all sorts of odds and ends. These would fire his imagination once in the studio - and off he'd go creating great work from next to nothing.
I also love the drawings of Escher the dutch designer who created fantastic images and illusions.
There are so many excellent painters around - but Matisse captures landscapes in such a free and breezy manner, with colour and ease. His still life paintings are masterful.
Precursor to Impressionism - Turner
Since impressionism there are many, Morriset, Degas, Caezanne, Monet, van Gogh, Braque, Modliagni, Augustas John, Warhol, Blockley...
I love Klimt and Van Gogh (have you read Irving Stone's 'Lust for Life'? it's amazing), and I'm very drawn to Modigliani. I also really love the work of Andrew Wyeth - if I had to choose one favorite it would be him. I like the gritty realism and the simplicity of his subject matter. Of course there is so much more to it that I find hard to put into words!
