Nikon D5100 Review

In the world of Digital cameras there are clearly a number of different manufacturers and models for you to choose from and one name that you will probably be familiar with is the Nikon D5100. They have been producing cameras for a number of years and their name is synonymous with quality, but what about the D5100 Digital SLR Camera? Is this one that meets the high standards associated with this particular brand? Lets find out.

The Nikon D5100 Specifications

Perhaps one of the first things you should know about the Nikon D5100 is that it comes with 16.2MP so you can expect amazing clarity on any image that you take. Other things that you may like to know about include the ISO sensitivity, which with this model is between the ranges of 100 - 6400 although the extended mode is 100 - 25600, and the camera allows you to take 1080p HD movies complete with its very own autofocus to help make sure that everything looks great. All of this is of course then accentuated by the zoom lens that comes with it with this lens being extremely sharp when bringing those all important objects firmly into focus.

Precision with your shots is always important and to help you along, the Nikon D5100 has its own scene recognition system and 3D tracking and this works in tandem with its 11 point AF system and the result of all of this are some outstanding images. This model is also able to take four photographs a second in order to give you continuous shooting and all of this is viewed through a 3 inch vari-angle monitor that swivels out from the camera itself.

Finally, you do have the option of being able to do some special effects with the camera thanks to it having two exposure settings to alter the light and also via various additional settings including night vision, selective color, high key, low key, and even a setting to make everything appear miniature in size.

Positive Aspects To The Nikon D5100

There are a number of clear positives associated with the Nikon D5100 and one of the main ones is its ability to take some fantastic images in low light situations as well as its Active D lighting, where it balances out the light differences in a shot so you get a much better end result. You will also find that the processor and sensor contained within this model is the exact same as what you will find in the more expensive D7000 model, but at a fraction of the price and this is always good to hear when buying any product.

You know you are onto a great camera when even retired professionals are talking about how the images it takes do not have to really be edited.

The ability to move the screen and pull it out to the side is also another positive and indeed this is a feature that is missing on more expensive options and it does make a difference when trying to take some shots. This camera in general is very easy to use and even though it does have various options when it comes to light and types of images to take it is actually not that complicated to work.

Possible Negatives With The D5100

There will always be some negatives as no product is ever perfect, but it is only when they are major negatives that you will tend to run into problems. When it comes to this Digital SLR Camera perhaps the main negatives are that it could have done with offering you better protection in poor weather and it does not feel as sturdy as older versions, but that may be due to different materials being used in the construction and you will certainly not want to drop it. It should also be said that if you have rather large fingers, then perhaps the buttons could have been better laid out for you, but as long as you take your time and do not rush your shots, then you should not have too many problems.

Conclusion - Nikon D5100 Digital SLR Camera

To conclude, it has to be said that the Nikon D5100 is a fantastic Digital SLR Camera for anybody that is serious about their photography, but are still one level below being a full on professional. It comes with enough megapixels to make those images look fantastic and the zoom lens that you get with it really does increase the options that you have available for you when it comes to taking photographs with the camera. It will take you a bit of time to really learn what this camera is capable of doing and it certainly is not just an entry level model if you are new to photography, but if you love taking images, then there is really not a better camera out there right now than the D5100.
