When do airbags deploy?
Is it generally based on the speed prior to impact or the force.
Its determined on the force of impact on the car/compartment/sensors.
~thranax~
The force is normally determined by the speed of impact. The faster the speed the greater force you will have.
Hi Kevin,
airbags are set to deploy at pre determined forces and crumple points. The bags are designed to inflate and catch and slow your rate of deceleration by deflating. This all happens in fractions of seconds. The best advice I can give is to drive on or within the speed limits and hope everybody else does the same.
I know an impossible ask but trust me there is nothing pleasant about testing your airbags and you will be sore. Make sure to buy a car with both passenger and driver airbags and if affordable one with side impact airbags as well. After this hope never to have to test whether or not they work,
MJ.
