   What American made cars would you guys suggest to purchase?
   
   I am in the beginning stages of purchasing a new car. By new I mean anywhere between 2006 and 2013 and used. What is an acceptable mileage and what American cars would you guys in the community suggest? I live in a pretty hilly area and am looking for something durable yet good on gas.

   I won't pick any one make or model because I'm biased by the fact I never had any problems with my Fords, yet other people have had tons of problems with them. For the years you mention, if the person who previously owned it took care of it, the gas mileage should be close to what it was originally. You can probably find a non-hybrid car that gets at least 25-30 miles around town. If you're looking to buy an SUV or truck, I think 20-25 mpg would be sensible to shoot for. I currently have a 4-cylinder and it does fairly well on the hills around my area, but they're not very steep. If you have a lot of steep hills, you probably should get at least a 6-cylinder so you have a little more power.

      Central PA is jolly but for the most part I would categorize the roads as medium grade slopes. I was going to get a 6 cylinder because of that but the amount of gas mileage saved in a 4 cylinder is tantalizing. Any specific Fords you have experienced

   I've always like Chevy. I owned a couple and never had a problem with them.

      To be honest I always have too. That and dodge. However my father in law tells me Dodge ' s aren't reliable. I was looking into the Impala, Malibu, and Cruze for Chevy.

   I work in a busy shop and we repair all makes and models. Based on what I see, Chrysler products would not be an option. I give Ford products the edge for cars and small to mid size SUVs. I personally think they have a better product. You will may get a rebadged Daewoo or Opel with GM. However, I would prefer a full size GM truck or SUV over Ford. I find the GM V8s a much more reliable and less expensive to maintain than Ford's. Stay away from 3 valve Fords. Also consider who took a bailout and who worked themselves through...

   The Ford Fiesta or Ford Focus, depending on the size of car you want, seem like two good choices for you!  They have been receiving very positive feedback lately, as they are spacious, fuel efficient, and fun to drive.
