What do you think of the bill in Congress that will require cars to have black boxes?
A bill going through Congress will require all cars made after 2015 to have a black box (like an airplane). This could be used to track speed, location, or anything with the car.
Many cars have had the black boxes for some time already. It is good and bad. But in some circumstances it can actually help someone involved in a bad car accident to show they did everything they could to prevent it. This is no more an invasion of privacy than Onstar is in your car. Good question though.
I just wish they would leave us alone and let us live our lives.
let's get real here. With the technology that we have today, one: I can not believe that a car can still hit another car. I can not believe that a car can even start with the presence of alcohol or any drug smell. I can not believe that a car is permitted to leave the road and hit something. I can not believe that a car will even start if it is not the correct person sitting behind the wheel.
To me we should be demanding such things. After all they are possible. I predict in five years we may see cameras and microphones in our cars along with these black boxes. Not to save lives or protect us but to incriminate us, to be used as evidence against us. Why on earth would we want such things? To be made to believe that they will save lives. For some reason we still want to have control like speeding, driving recklessly or driving under the influence.
A car can be made very smart and we have seen technologies placed into them that are cool, but still do not save lives. How many airbags will it take? And did you know that when an airbag deploys the insurance company will claim the vehicle totaled, not usable, not repairable?
If the speed limit is 70 why can the car do eighty? Believe me, it could be controlled and taken out of the hands of the person and their decision making. After all a computer can fly a man to the moon and back in auto.
Just saying, but isn't it about time for cars that can't hit another car, won't go without the seat belt fastened, won't start if you are not the owner or authorized or even speed in designated speed zones. Come on, we can do better, can't we?
The government is working on legislation that would require all vehicles to have black boxes, which record information. This article discusses if it is a good thing or invasion of privacy. read more
