At present I believe gas-run cars are still more efficient as many electric cars still only go about 70 miles between battery recharges and it takes up to 10 hours to recharge a battery completely.  That said, some people do say that an electric car is a feasible option if you only ever drive for short bursts within a city.

If/when one expands his analysis to the production, use and discarding of an automobile, there is no way that electric (motor) powered cars should ever show up in the mix.....

    1.  They are expensive and resource-expensive to make....

    2.  Electricity is not a cheap source of "fuel"... if you follow that charge electricity back to the power plant... AND take in to account that one must - necessarily - tote around 400-500 pounds of "battery".....

    3.  When its life is done, these cars - with their batteries - will be recycle/discard nightmares.....

We'll be wise to continue to use automobiles with engines in them to move around....
