Is this a good price for maintenance for 2000 Chevy Malibu @ 200,000 miles
I am getting a new fuel pump because the other one stopped working (the car wouldn't start). I know from experience what it is because I had to replace two fuel pumps on a Chevy Blazer (retired at 310,000 miles). Plus the fuel pump sending unit needs to be replaced. My brake lines and fuel lines are also getting replace. They were getting rotted out and brake lines were leaking.
Cost for parts and labor--$785 This is a mechanic who is reliable and reasonable.
At that price, I would say, 'Jump on it!' I just wrote a hub about auto maintenance, which includes a maintenance checklist. I think $785 is very reasonable for replacing the fuel pump and the brake lines. From what I know, your mechanic is doing this job at a bargain price.
Brake Lines don't go bad based on mileage. A 2000 Malibu with bad brake lines? Sounds fishy. Get a 2nd opinion. Fuel Line are made of metal. Never seen one go bad. Get a 2nd opinion. New Fuel Pump with Sender, Float, Strainer and Fuel Reservoir & Wiring Harness - $100 to $200. Labor: around 3 hours - @ $100 an hour = $300. Wouldn't pay over $600. What about replacing the fuel filter?
Yes the fuel filter was replaced as well as I think the air filter. And yes the mechanic showed us them they were pretty rusted. And the brake lines were leaking. The fuel pump went at 200,000 miles. I guess if I took this to FireStone this would

Taxpayers pay for $49,000 of the $89,000 dollars it cost to build a Chevy Volt. Sound like a good deal to you? That President Obama really wasn't joking when he said energy costs will have to sky-rocket was he? What a joke. See what happens when we rely on government?
