No, not always. GPS is a hastle to set up in the car so I usually get Mapquest directions. I'm already on the computer in the morning and it doesn't take nearly as much time than the GPS getting started.
I use the navigation application on my phone a lot, but not always.
I use it when I drive anywhere that is farther that than 30 minutes, whenever I go somewhere for the first time, when I want to know how long it will take for me to get somewhere, whenever I want to try a different route, whenever I want to avoid tolls, and whenever I want to find the nearest bank, restaurant, etc. in an unfamiliar area.
I have lived in Melbourne, Florida for 2 years, but I feel I know the area very well, because of my GPS phone app.
I use it especially on long trips as a way to feel like I am getting closer. I will occassionally use it around town if traffic is really bad to see if I should take a different route.
At the moment, I rely on street directory to check the destination where I am going before setting out. My brother uses GPS when he goes overseas as it will be a better guide to reach destination.
I only use my GPS when I'm going to a place that I'm not familiar with.
