What do you do to keep car repair costs down?

Do you go above and beyond on maintenance?
    Do you do repairs yourself?
Do you only have a car under warranty?

Regular maintenance and careful driving play a big part in keeping repair costs down.

Thanks! Is there anything you do to save money on regular maintenance?

DIY when possible. Today, via online information, it's  easier to learn about doing it yourself than ever. Connecting with a DIYr is also a benefit.  Maintaining a savings plan for emergency vehicle repair is also important.

For me personally I choose to drive cars that are low-frills basic transportation machines. The bigger, heavier and fancier your car is the higher the cost of ownership is going to be under any conditions.

I currently drive a Chevy HHR, it's akin to the Cobalt, not known to be a great car, but it fits the bill for a no-frills ride.

Thanks for sharing those wonderful tips! I know many mechanics that choose to drive old civics or crown vics for that very reason!

      Happy hubbing! smile

I do my own oil changes, tire changes, and fluid top ups. Every little bit counts.
