How to Find Hot Jobs in Scarsdale

Updated on February 6, 2013

During the first quarter of 2011, Bloomberg BusinessWeek analysts announced that the Village of Scarsdale NY was the #20 Wealthiest Town out of the top 25 in America. Previously, in April 2010, Money Magazine found Scarsdale the Number Two town in the US for high median houseold income at $219,317. Overall, Scarsdale has been one of the wealthier communities in the US for some time.

Located approximately 25 miles north of the western end of Long Island and 19 miles from Grand Central Station, Scarsdale is close enough for a commute to NYC and the large numbers of jobs posted there. According to Sperling's Best Places, 38% of the residents that commute use mass transit or car pooling.

Though much of the community is upscale, the business market is diverse enough to offer adult education and enrichment programs within the city limits, along with tutoring programs for K-12. An annual Westchester Festival of Arts celebrated its first year in 2010 and a years community-wide sidewalk sale has been successful for some time.

Home prices during Spring 2011, according to Trulia, include a wide range of $99,000 to $12.75 Million and median of $799,000, down from $876,740 in 2010, and down from $1.34 Million in 2008 according to the New York TImes.

Of many famous and rich people from Scarsdale, two are very well known: Susan Lucci of All My Children and Linda McCartney (deceased), photpgrapher and wife of The Beatles' Paul McCartney.

Village Center

The Village Center is a gathering place and retail hub in Scarsdale that celebrates the American Colonial Period in which it was founded (1701). A full service railroad station is at its center, making mass transit convenient. Shops in Tudor style architecture line the streets that are landscaped and maintained annually. Greenspaces are improved as needed and historic landmarks are preserved with the help of Neighborhood Associations and civic clubs.

As in many other American communities, Scarsdale is moving to mixed-use buildings and properties in its business district and this includes residential, entertainment, shopping, and greenspace close to public transport. Bike lanes and and instances of sustainability are fully supported. Farmers markets held throughout the year also help with local support and sustainability.

Since life-long education is important to the community, the local library and other groups are helping in developing and providing space for high school classes, wireless Internet (WI-FI), and a dedicated library kiosk in the Village Center. Even further developments are indicated under a state grant awarded to the library in 2011 for over $111,000. The main library building and programs are the favorites among many adults in Scarsdale.

A unique attraction is the construction from 2010 - 2012 under a comprehensive Village Center plan from 1990 and 2009 that will provide affordable workforce housing to law enforcement officers, teachers, and others needed in Scarsdale in addition to new retail shops. Senior Citizens and rail commuters are also welcomed to this housing area. New construction is part of an ongoing development of mixed-use properties and nearby White Plains NY is home to half-a-dozen large shpping malls as well.
