How to update your cPanel contact information
There are many reasons for wanting to update your cPanel contact information. For instance, you might be thinking of stopping using your personal email address for business communication. The other reason might be that the domain name contact person has changed and you need the information to be updated to reflect the one that inherited the job. Or maybe you outsourced your web design needs and your web designer used his contact information when registering your domain name and you want to change it.
Why update the cPanel contact information?
Am glad you asked. The contact person of the domain name is the one that the webhost and domain registrar communicate with. For instance, if you want to perform some simple tasks like add new email accounts to your domain name, park a domain name, create a sub domain etc, you need to use the contact information that is associated with your domain name in order.
How to update the contact information
There are two main ways that you can use to cPanel update the contact information. The first method is using the cPanel and the second one is requesting the webhost to update the contact details for you. When you request your webhost to do for you the update, you must authenticate yourself as the owner of the domain name. This is done by using the contact details that is associated with your domain name. If you are not sure which contact information is listed for your domain name, simply go to www.whois.com and use the tool to check. If you are not sure how to use the tool, check out my step by step guide on how to use whois and other domain management tools.
The downside of requesting your webhost to do the update for you is that you will have to wait for a while. How long you wait solely depends on how efficient your webhost is as far as responding to support tickets is concerned. Even though it can take just a few minutes, you might have to wait for hours or even days. That is why you might want to know how to update the information yourself.
To update the contact details, you will need to login to cPanel. Once you are logged in to cPanel, go to the section labeled PREFERENCES. Under it, look for the icon labeled “update contact info” and click on it. It will redirect you to a new page where you can change the contact details of your domain name. Once you have made the changes, click on save.
Remember to logout of cPanel especially if you are on a shared computer.
