In business theory, there are two types of leadership. There is the theory X leader who strongly believes that people do not have the capability and/or intelligence to work on their own so they need to be managed to a "T". In contrast, there is the theory Y leader who contends that people have the self-motivation to work on their own and only need management when necessary. However, most managers and executive have combination of both theory X and Y characteristics. Are you mostly a theory X or Y supervisor/manager/executive or one who is a combination of both? If you are not the aforementioned, have you worked for a theory X or Y supervisor/manager/executive or one who is a combination of both?
In fact, gmwilliams, there are only 2 types of Humans...Those with brains, and those with brains that use them. To be or become a 'Leader' of humans, one should seek to reflect the latter of themselves, as well as those of their main Team of staff. This requires an XY character so that functionality is ever adjustable toward sustainability of the business. These are people you pay to think while they work...these are you, & your motivators & innovators.
To utilize the aforementioned sect, these are options for labor only positions...folks who come to work, do the job expected, take their pay, & go...and they are managed best within X guidelines & routines..
impo...Y-type leaders lack Teamwork mindset & foresight...Most are disgruntled quickly, because the only aspect they are usually confronted with are problems...many of which could have been avoided, if they were more hands-on with their staff & their business.
I look for XYs...maintains a good balance of brain food & opportunity to adapt quickly & smoothly...and that adds interest with success...with business & Life.
Can't be bothered with all that stuff! It doesn't apply to the reality of the present! Who cares????
People throughout the world are struggling with unemployment etc as a direct consequence of such BS 80s theories on management traits and buzz words!!
In Reality.... it boils down to how either democratic or autocratic skills/techniques are applied and how such choices fit the business strategic objectives and resource base!
Unbelievable - why are you promoting a re-invented version of a square wheel?
Are people still wasting money and time listening to seminars on such BS?
X + Y = ZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz ! IMO
You state democratic vs autocratic leadership principles which are UPDATED and MODERNIZED versions of the theory x and y business leadership personas nevertheless.
Yes.... Exactly, illustrating a re-invented version of a square wheel!!
When was the wheel invented in its squarest form?
The rounded version that I taught professionally years ago continues to remain more relevant today!
The Ultimate Success of Any Business - Anywhere in the world - Conducting any sort of service to the human race... is dependent upon its People!
Any business is only as good as its most negative or problematic member of staff! FACT: In over 70% of assignments that I conducted... that member of staff tended to be their leader!! It is irrelevant what their management style is... it is all about how that person fits the people, not the other way around!

I have been trying to find a term for someone who is neither theist, atheist, or agnostic. For the longest time, I have considered myself an agnostic, but I'm not sure if that's the best definition. To me, a more suitable term would be an "eclectic" but I rarely see that term. I believe...
