If I had absolute free rein over my choice in profession, I'd either be a columnist for a newspaper (preferably doing movie reviews), or I'd be a voice actor for...anything that requires voice acting.
I'd be an internationally respected rock critic for Rolling Stone, traveling the highways and byways of America with bands in their tour buses and finding out what really makes them tick. Also, groupies.
...y'know, just like that kid in "Almost Famous."
Engineer. Perhaps beginning with creation of new materials, coupled with new methods of combining them and new methods of construction to create a mix of form and function that is both beautiful AND useful.
It might range from a new cooking pot to I 70 through Glenwood Canyon in Colorado.

Without a doubt in my mind I'd be a healthy, full grown 550lb male lion. I love the way they walk the African grasslands knowing they are the supreme land predator. Even a pack of hyenas retreat once a single male lion appears.
