    Hi A- What is the purpose of work?  How does work help to fulfill one's self-defined purpose of life?  Can work help to create happiness?

    If you work relates to your purpose, yes.  And even if there is no direct link it can provide the stability and income needed to pursue that purpose.

    I dunno about anybody else, but the purpose of my work is to earn money for mortgage/food/etc. so I am not living in a cardboard box down by the river.

    To me work gives happiness. As I am in education, I have to take up some extra work on moral grounds like guiding weak students, correcting the questionnaire and assignments prepared by students etc. which actually puts extra stress on me. I also observed many of my colleagues tactfully avoiding any work which does not involve monetary benefits.
    But I often take up these additional tasks because it gives me pleasure. The downside is that I get tired sometimes.
