What are the pros and cons of being a doctor in the military rather than having a private practice?
I don't know how true this question is to facts... but this is just my opinion based off my own experiences...
Pro of being a doctor in the military is definately having an instant job. If you are a doctor and your in the military you will have a job whereas in the civilian world, you will have to search and research and get hired or start your own practice. I would assume being a doctor in the military is an easier way to do what you want without the leg work of searching for a job!
The cons - from most military men and women (or veterans) that you may talk to, doctors in the military have a bad rap! They are known as the doctors who couldn't make it in the real world and that is why they went into the military. They are notorious for fixing everything with 800 MG iboprofen and for not really taking care of the problem. Most miltiary members will try to tough things out before heading in to see the military doctor. Alot of this is hearsay but alot is stemmed from people who have had procedures done that have been seriously screwed up. I know I had a military doctor do surgery on me and I am now scarred for life. It could have happened in the civilian world as well, but that memory is printed on my mind.
