Do you respond "Thank you" or "I know"
If someone shares with you information that you are already aware of, do you respond: "Thank you" or "I know"?
In what situation would one or the other be more appropriate?
How to you respond to someone who seems to always respond "I know"?
I respond "Thank you" 99% of the time, unless it is VERY obvious that one is being facetious.
Thanks Fastian. I agree that a thanks is usually the more polite answer, which is why I posted the question. I get "I know" a lot (especially from co-workers). I was starting to wonder if I was in the minority on this manor.
You're welcome Stacey. Most people only love to speak & assert themselves. They think listening to whatever they even don't know is an insult to their knowledge(sort of). But along with "I know" of others is humbleness on your part.
Oh nice point - I hadn't considered the humbleness aspect...
My response will be "Thank you".
Even my response will be "Thank you" to the one who always responses with an "I know". Its better to thank him/her for knowing so much. Don you think so?.........LOL
"Thank YOU" ( no pun intended ) :-)
It depends on what they're telling me. But I think it's best to roll your response into a fluid statement that shows that you understand what they said, that you are interested, and that you too have become aware of the information they are providing.
thank you is more appropriate than saying " i know that" May sounds insulting or hurtful to the other party.
