If you write quality hubs and keep adding new hubs, you might even cross that $5 per day mark. I've seen people making a lot more than that per day.
It takes patience, determination, and the willingness to write. On HubPages, Google is your best friend. If your hubs are not ranking well on Google, than you will not have much success. Although, once you write a hub, your first traffic will be from HubPages.
To sum it up, write great hubs with keywords that pertain to what you are writing. All these will help when ranking your hubs on Google and other search engines.
Is there any way other than writing hub where i could earn more than $5 per day.
Open up your own ecommerce store, sell on eBay, set up a blog with affiliate links, use your skils to do things for other people.
Those options above will be a lot more than just $5 per day.
Obviously, everything you go with requires dedication.
Try Bubblews. $25 payout. 400 characters required per post. I have earned $11 in just a couple of weeks without doing much. I have a friend that has had 4 payouts in about 6 weeks.

You can't. Just had to put that out there as I'm seeing newbies all over the forums going on about these topics lately.Serious money comes from getting views from Google NOT from having other hubbers visit your work. Some of the top hubbers on the site have separate accounts NO ONE knows about to...

Does anyone have a good idea of how many hubs I would need in order to make at least $50 a month through the Hubpages Ad program? 100? 200? Anyone achieved this monetary amount per month yet?

I have been on Hub Pages about a year and I have written about 27 Hubs and they have received close to 5000 views, which I felt was not bad and my status hovers between 82-88. Last week I had about 8 of my Hubs featured, which again seemed ok. Now magically overnight, I have all these codes now...
