Why do people actually start businessess?
Yes many people risk their investment into business and don't know why?
I started a business because I was sick of working for other people. It didn't require any investment, and I was in profit by the end of my first month. Although it's a little harder to keep things running in this economy, I'm still at it nine years later.
It's amazing that you achieved profitability at such an early time. I assume you had little to no overhead. You must also have had contacts to immediately sell your writing to, right?
For years, I built an email list. That, and a first product offering that had no overhead, put me far enough in profit the first month to subsidize the next products, and I just kept that ball rolling.
You said it wasn't easy but how did you just kept it going?
There are variety of reasons why people start businesses.
1. Someone has a great idea and are convinced the world will buy.
2.They were laid off/fired from a job and couldn't find work.
3. Friends & family convinced them to turn their "hobby" into a business.
A lot of retired people are also starting businesses as well. Maybe retirement is boring them and they want to put some excitement into their lives.
Lastly you'll earn more from (profits) than you ever will from an hourly or bi-weekly wage. Very few people become "rich" working for someone else. Some people want to challenge themselves!
