Has management styles in the 21st century, post-industrialized, computerized world evolved from
a strictly theory X style to a theory Y style or is there is a combination of theory X & Y styles? Theory X is a style which believes that workers can only work with harsh supervision/management & they aren't capable of being self-motivated employees. Theory Y realizes that each worker is self-motivated & wants to contribute to the workplace in which the management style is enabling of such.
Well, younger management today, are less likely to yell at employee, while previous generations really yell at you.
I telecommuted for many years. It requires trust from both management and the employee. I worked to schedules. As long as I delivered my work on time and and it met the expectations of management and the end-user, they could care less what I did with my time. It does require a high degree of responsibility to all of those concerned. I guess I worked under theory Y conditions.
