Home Based Business Online

Updated on August 30, 2017

What is a Home Based Business?

A home based business is a business that you conduct from home. You are your own boss. You are in control of your finances and bookkeeping. Working at home does not mean getting up early in the morning to commute to a job that you may not be very crazy about and let us not even think about the cost of gas to get there!

Being involved with my own home business off and on for years while working outside of the home has not been easy, and do not kid yourself that it is. I first started out selling gifts from catalogs. I spent a fortune on snail mailing the catalogs out with my business name and matching envelopes, hoping to bring in a flood of orders. Set up booths with merchandise I paid for, hoping to make a sell.

Then there were those home parties. Egad, how I hate to see those invitations from family and friends. Just to think I did that to with cosmetics and Christmas Around the World.

This was all to supplement my primary income.

Beware of Online Scams

Not all business ventures are legit. Do your homework. Read up on it. If they want a large amount on upfront money, chances are it is a scam.

Most of us set up a home business to give ourselves the flexibility of our hours and spending more time with family. The desire to be your own boss and not work for anyone else but yourself is a dream that most of us want to achieve.

Now with the internet it is so much easier to achieve that dream. Little or no overhead, networking at your fingertips and so many different business ventures to look into...financial security is easier to grasp.

Sell Information and eBooks and Format eBooks

Some Ideas Below

  1. Conduct a webinar and give out your expertise on a particular subject. Set in up in a video. Add it to Go to Meeting.
  2. Sell informational eBooks from your own website. This would include this sample high quality eBooks site on recipes, fitness, self-help, spiritual, money making tips, Adsense, games, photography, jokes, podcasting, sports, hobbies, internet marketing and so much more eBooktreesaver.com is an example of this.
  3. Sell eBooks from Amazon, Smashwords, or other online places. Many of these will pay directly into your PayPal account..

Format and Create eBooks

4. Work for a client and create covers for eBooks. Format their eBooks for places like Smashwords, Lulu and Kindle. Format these for yourself or the client for the printed book like CreateSpace. Or make an audio book. ( I have helped with either the cover or formatting or both. You can contact me at sandy@sandyspider.com for service.)

Be aware of what social networking sites will accept. Many will not take the marketing of Clickbank and MLM products. Many eBooks have been given a bad name. Kindle and other eBooks like this are acceptable and there are many well worth the buy. Like the few shown on here from Amazon.

Books Worth Reading

These eBooks on Smashwords have several different formats for you to choose from to download. This is what makes Smashwords stand out above the rest. Since I have formatted these two books, I do know that they are worth reading.

Become an Associate for Amazon

Make Between 4 to 8% Selling Other People's Products

Better yet, if you have your own products on Amazon posted on a page like this and someone happens to make a purchase from here…Guest what happens? You make a royalty off the product that sold from the custom gift site, which it came from. In addition to that, an earning fee from Amazon as an associate.

Below are a few items from Sandy Mertens on 3DRose as they appear on Amazon.

These are with the Amazon capsule and you will not be able to view it if you have Ad Blocker on. Please disable it.

About Amazon Capsules and Mouse Pads

With the capsules it is a 60/40 with HubPages. Meaning 60% of the time the sale will go into your account and 40% of the time it is linked to the Hubpages account. But if you want to guarantee 100% would come to you if it is clicked on and sold, then you can add a photo of it and a link. Often it is good to have a mix of both. At least the link will show up when someone has the Ad Blocker enabled.

About the Mouse Pads Above

Durable heavy duty recycled rubber with matte finish mouse pads. These are easy to clean, soft to touch and crack resistant mouse pads. Large photos and design variety from holidays, animals, travel, monograms and much more. A small selection is shown in the photo below. See them all when you click on the link below this.
