How To HubPage

When I wrote my Hub 'I make Money on HubPages' I never realised that it would lead to me having to put together a related Hub so quickly. It becomes clear to me from comments and emails that many people join HubPages to make money. Making money is their main reason for joining HubPages. You can make money on HubPages. Some people make big money through HubPages and some make very little or nothing at all. If you can write, are prepared to put in the effort, do research and are patient then eventually you will be rewarded. Dedication can lead to dollars.

So, how does it all work? How do you make money on HubPages? There are hundreds of Hubs out there which will tell you. They give you clues, ideas, plans and hypotheses. It is is up to you to read them. They will be a big help. Like everything you read anywhere take the stated fact with a pinch of salt.

The first thing that you have to realise and accept is that HubPages pays you nothing. You do not get a cheque from them. Joining HubPages is free but they do take a small and fair percentage of any money you make through them. If you make nothing then it is not only you who is the loser. It is your effort, your work, your dedication, your commitment which makes the money. HubPages by design makes it easier for you to do this. It is you though, no-one but you who can make it happen. To make it happen there are a number of things you must do. Some of these are optional but all could increase your earning capacity.

You must join HubPages. Common sense really. You are not going to earn any money through HubPages unless you are a member. It is surprising how many people who will say "When I win the lottery" who never actually buy a ticket. Well HubPages is exactly like that you have to join to earn. Joining is easy enough. Read The Quick Guide To Hub Construction and this will aid you through what is a very simple process. 

Secondly you will need to write. Write about something you know about or are passionate about. Read other peoples Hubs and see how they go about it. I write mainly, but not only about Zoos. Take a look at my Zoo Hubs. Flick through them see how they are pulled together. See how the different 'capsules' are located. Capsules are sections which will hold text, video, photographs, Amazon, eBay and more.

At this stage all you need to do is write. Don't press the publish button. Get a feel for what you are doing. You cannot break anything. Try moving capsuless around. Add and delete photographs. Make them larger or smaller. Study the various components and how they work. Once you feel comfortable with what you are doing then you are ready to move on to the next stage.

There are three main money making opportunities offered to you in Hubpages. The first of these is through Google Adsense. Google hosts the small blue advertisements which appear in your hubs. The ads will appear whether you are a signed up to Google Adsense or not but you won't earn a penny unless you are.

That is your first mission. Join Google Adsense. Please please please read all their rules and understand and obey them. Google is clever and all knowing. You cannot cheat them. You will get caught. If Google chucks you out it will be difficult to impossible to have them accept you once again.

So. Read about Google Adsense. Read the already published Hubs. The critiques. The How To's. This is important. If you want to make money you need to be informed. Put the effort in. Then join.

Once you have joined Google Adsense you have your first rung on the ladder. Once you publish your first hub you could start earning money from this. It won't be much at first. Maybe only a cent a week. Nothing at all if you have no visitors to your hub. But...if you write well on a subject people are interested in it could be dollars a day. Multiply that by lots of interesting hubs and then the sky is the limit. You will though have to write original content. You need to work. To put the effort in.

Think about it. If your one and only hub earned you 1 cent per day then in a year you would be $3.65 better off. Though it isn't necessarily so but ten hubs of the same calibre could make you $36.50 in a year. But you are going to do better than that. Aren't you?

Once you are signed up to Google Adsense it is time for you to work on your second money making opportunity... Amazon. The capsule is there for you to use but it is largely useless to you unless you are an Amazon Affiliate.

So you have to join Amazon. Once again. Research it. Read what other people have to say about it. The Pro's, the Con's, the tips, the tricks. Once you feel confident that you understand then join Amazon Affiliates.

When you have that up and running on your hub you can advertise and sell products which Amazon has on its list. Readers may click on an Amazon link in your hub. This will lead directly to the product on the Amazon website. If they purchase it then you will make commission. The more you sell, the higher your commission.

The research and understanding is essential. Think about what your hub is about. Advertise on your page items which apply. Useless to include wheel trims if the hub is about hair care.

Remember that you are not actually selling anything. You are the advertising conduit through which readers flow to the Amazon shop to buy.

Okay. Now you have two income streams.

When you feel quietly confident with your first two regular income streams it is time to get going on number three. This is eBay. Once again HubPages provides you with a 'capsule' in which you can quickly and easily place eBay products.

Before you start though it is important to do your research. Read up all you can. Do the research. Don't jump blindly in. With minor differences Amazon and eBay are offering similar products.

eBay pays differently to Amazon. Here they pay by the number of 'clicks' from the products advertised on your hub that lead to actual sales. The amount you earn can increase as more people head to eBay from your hub.

Once again though you are not going to earn anything unless you are a member of the eBay Partner Network. eBay tend to be a little fussy and do not usually immediately sign people up. You may have to try a couple of times and fulfill requirements that they ask of you. It is worthwhile persevering though, for without doing so you will not have passive income number three.

Once you have a few hubs published you are going to want people to visit them. The more visits you get the more chance of clicks and the more clicks the more money you could make.

HubPages wants you to make more money too because the more you make the more they make. HubPages do not take any money off you. They cannot. HubPages makes their money by a 'click share' on your hubs. 40% of the time they gain from the clicks and 60% of the time you earn. I believe that is fair enough. They have done a lot of work to provide you with an easy way to possibly make a passive income.

You want more money and so does HubPages and so they give you another opportunity to make more. They and you will make more if you can get more people to sign up and write for HubPages. Such sign ups are known as referrals. For every person you can get to join and write for HubPages you will get 10% of the affiliate revenue which the referred persons hub earns. You will get this for as long as the Hub is published. They don't lose anything. They, like you will still get their 60% share! Here it is HubPages that gives up 10% of their money by way of a reward.

There are HubPage writers who are reputed to earn a good portion of their earnings from Hubs written by other people. Can you imagine. You get 100 people to sign up and you earn 10% of what they earn every day? No-one loses but your bank balance gains. 

So how do you get a referral? - It is actually quite easy. At the bottom of your profile and every HubPage there is a piece of text which says 'link to this page'. When you are signed on to HubPages and click on this it will show the page web address and a piece of code unique to you.

You can use this web address and the inclusive code wherever you like. Your profile page address you could include as a signature file at the end of emails. You could put it in comments on internet blogs or newspapers. Anyone you clicks on this and then signs up to HubPages will be classed as a referral and you get 10% of what they earn from their HubPages forever.

You can add to your income still further by joining up to Kontera. It is not something I have done up to now. It is easily done through HubPages but it will need research by you before you commit yourself.

I have read a lot about Kontera. There is positive and negative. For now I have decided not to join but may review this at a later date.
