SEO: How to Improve Your Google Page Rank

Updated on January 21, 2017

Here are some tips for increasing your page rank in Google and other search engines. Read what Google considers for page ranking in search results and take necessary steps. This will help you to see your pages in first or second page of Google search results, for specific keywords to related subjects.

Many of my Hubpages are appearing on first page of Google search results, and some on number one or two position. It is easy to do, just read the tips and follow them.

Please note that I have mentioned only some of the important factors for higher page ranking.

1. Keyword in the URL

There must be the keyword or keywords to related topic in the URL of the page. This is the most important thing as search engines give top priority to this factor..

Example: The URL of this page is The last part of this URL is How-to-Increase-Your-Google-Page-Rank. People searching for article on increasing page rank will surely find this page in search results.

2. Keyword in the Page Title

The title of the page is another important thing to consider. You should choose a perfect title for the page, exactly relating to the subject of the page. Search engines give priority to this factor.

Example: Title of this page is How to Imrove Your Google Page Rank. This is the perfect title for this page as it is related to the subject in the page.

3. Key Words in the Text

Within the article, you should put all important keywords. Such keywords can be in form of section titles.

Example: See the titles I have used before every section in this article.

This is an important factor which search engines consider for page ranking.

4. Backlinks from other Websites

What is a backlink? It is nothing but incoming links to your pages from other websites. More the backlinks your website has, you get more visitors. Further, it also helps to increase the page rank in search results. Double Benefits!

Your website will get higher position in search results if it is back linked by a website which has a higher page rank. (See diagram at the end of this Hub under the title Baklinks and Page Rank Explained).

Please read more about building back links at: How to Get Back Links: 10 Easy Ways

5. Internal Linking

Linking your pages on related subjects within your website also helps you to increase the page rank. Such links are considered as backlinks by search engines.

6. Keyword as Tags

You should use keywords as tags in your HubPages and blogs etc. This helps the search engines to find your pages quickly. Perfect tags increase the page rank.

7. Keywords in Image File Names

Before uploading images to your Hubs, websites, blogs be sure that the image file name is related to it's subject. Do not use numbers as file names, but a perfect name of the subject.

Example: If the image is of a rainbow, use rainbow as the file name, do not name it as image No 123 etc.

As the images are shown in image search results, actually you get backlinks from them.

Rank Example

See following photo. My page is displayed on number one position in Google search results for the keyword Sanskrit facts.

One of my HubPages on the top position in Google search result for the key word 'Sanskrit Facts'
One of my HubPages on the top position in Google search result for the key word 'Sanskrit Facts'

8. Other Page Rank Factors

Google Search Engine considers about 200 factors for page ranking. I have given 8 most important factors above. Some other factors include:

Age of the site: Google Search Engine likes older sites. New pages on older sites are added faster.

Frequency of Updates: Updating your pages frequently sends search engine spiders to your website frequently.

Listing in Site Directories: It means backlinks from higher page rank websites.

9. Negative Factors

1. Text given in graphics, text in Java Script, dynamic pages, flash page, frames are not useful to increase page ranks, as such types of pages are not readable by search engine spiders.

2. High number of outgoing links decreases your page rank

3. Although facebook likes and sharing of your links send a lot of visitors to your pages, it is not useful to increase the page rank.

4. Link exchange does not help in page ranking.

Baklinks and Page Rank Explained

Below is the image explaining page rank by backlinks. Website B has many backlinks from lower page rank websites, and a backlink from higher page rank website C. Website E has many backlinks from lower page rank websites, but has no backlink from higher page rank website. Website C has just one backlink from higher page rank website B.

So you need backlinks from higher page rank websites to increase your page rank.

Data given on this page is pretty good, but i think things can be made even simple and Pr may be increased very quickly if we focus on the basics of the blogging.Like we should keep in mind that content is the king,so there should be no copyright content present at your blog, try to maintain the balance between do follow and no follow links, use H1 and H2 heading in a proper way.

I think you wrote this hub just about the time I joined HP. I have read other "How-tos" on increasing traffic, but most are not explained as well as this one. Now I may go back and revise some of my inactive hubs and those that aren't getting much traffic. Voted up++

Very creatively crafted article and pretty much informative. I would like to point out one issue mentioned above: "Although facebook likes and sharing of your links send a lot of visitors to your pages, it is not useful to increase the page rank." Yes, this holds 100 % true in terms of online promotion. People usually consider that while promoting your blog on social media platforms, the higher the number of likes and shares the higher the traffic. But this is absolutely wrong. You have to keep your readers engaging and wanting for more so that they are compelled to come to your site.

Thank you CrisSp for reading the Hub and finding it useful one. Learning never ends and I am also learning many things on hubpages, even after four years of joining it.

This is a great hub for newbies like me. Oh well, been here for 4 months now but yes I still consider myself a newbie. I go through HP learning center on and off and when needed. I find this hub very informative and words are laid straight to the point. For example, I didn't know that "Link exchange does not help in page ranking". --now I do. Thanks for sharing.

This is very helpful. I recently went back to revise some of my very early hubs written when I knew nothing about SEO. Although I'm still not an expert by any means, I'm already seeing results just by adding a few keywords. I'm off to read you hub about backlinks now. Thanks for the info!

Very well written and comprehensive hub about how to increase Google Page Rank. I knew most of these tips but did not understand the process behind them. You've done a great job of explaining the "why" of Google's process.

    Voted up, useful and interesting.

Thanks for sharing this information. It will be especially helpful to new online writers.

Jainismus - thank you so much for this. I'm currently embroiled in the 30 hubs in 30 days challenge and once I'm done with that (end of this week) my plan is to review all my hubs and see how I can improve their ranking. SEOs and Keywords are a whole new world to me. Really useful hub - thank you!
