How to Leave Engaging and Insightful Comments

Hopping Hubs

Hopping Hubs

I try to read atleast 5-10 hubs per day. It is kind of hard because I write so prolifically but I feel like I will get back what I give in this community so I must make a concerted effort to read other people's hubs each and everyday. Honestly there are days I fall short. I will not lie to you especially when I am writing and publishing. But the effort is there. And for anyone reading this who wishes to be successful and inspired on HubPages I suggest your read your peers work.

You have to remember that as a free lance writer you are only in competition with yourself so reading, commenting and providing feedback is the best way to improve your readership.

And committing to reading 5 hubs a day isn't that hard. I read fast so it takes me under 30 minutes. And on days I need to catch up I hop 10 hubs and that takes about an hour.

So Hop some Hubs diligently and you will see your readership improve.

Leave Insightful and Engaging Comments

This is really important. When your read someone else's hub truly take and interest. Ask questions that seem to be the next logical question. For instance I was reading about Hurricane Irene's devastation to Connecticut. I commented that I loved the pictures and they were great! I also loved the article. It was well written, organized and provided a great deal of information but then I added a follow up question asking Connecticut's assistance from FEMA. It was the next logical question since the news has widely reported the federal government is tapped out of FEMA funds entirely this year.

On my own hubs, I allow others opinions even when different then my own to be expressed. Sometimes a difference of opinion makes for great discourse as long as it is civilized. I do moderate but only when it is a clear violation of the rules. I think I have moderated twice.

So be interested in others work and appreciate others being interested in your work.

Rate

Itdoes not hurt any author to rate another author's writings. In fact, I believe if you are generous with others they will be generous with you. So rate. It is the easiest and simplest thing to do to rate articles, useful, funny, awesome, interesting etc.. And then vote up or down. It is great to leave insightful comments on others hubs but if you want people to be generous with them you will have to actually take the time out to rate their hubs as well as comment. And it is not a time issue either. It actually takes less time to rate articles then to leave insightful and engaging comments and it helps the author. There are many hubs in which I haven't left a comment but rated them anonymously. It doesn't sell your articles when you do this as you do it without receiving credit but your are contributing to the HubPages community and that is important.

+1

This is a new feature to HubPage articles but you now have the ability in addition to providing am insightful and engaging comment, rating and voting a hub up to also recommend the hub to others by simply hitting the plus one feature. I have just begun using this feature myself but I think it is a valuable tool for really getting others work out there. I think the Golden Rule exists on HubPages which is to do unto others as you would have them do unto you. It isn't going to harm your writing, ranking, pay or anything else if you are generous to your fellow writers on Hubpages. If anything it will help you. Writing can be a very solitary isolating experience. I would guess you would have to love solitude to be a writer but the isolation isn't necessarily good for you so by being involved hopping other hubs, commenting, providing feedback, voting up and + 1 articles you would recommend you are actively participating in the HubPages community. And if you are good to other authors they will be good to you as well.

I hop 5-10 articles a day just looking for Hub articles to rate, vote up, provide comments and +1 and I honestly believe that any success I have had at all on Hubpages is because I have followed the Golden Rule and been generous to other writers.
