Is Hubpages a scam? Many people are interested in making a living from home. The web is full of stories of people getting rich online. This has increased the popularity of writing sites such as Hubpages. But, can you really make money on Hubpages, or is it a scam?

When I first started writing online, about 4 years ago, I started with Hubpages and Associated content, which is now owned by Yahoo!. I enjoyed writing and wasn't concerned too much with making money from it. And, I didn't. Let me repeat that. I didn't make any money on Hubpages the first few years. This was because I didn't try to and I didn't know what I was doing.

Is Hubpages A Scam?

No, Hubpages is not a scam. However, it's not easy money either. If you want to make money on this site than you need to be prepared to do some hard work. There is a lot that goes with online writing, you can't just expect that your words will show up on the first page of Google results.

You must treat Hubpages as you would treat a job. You need to write about subjects you know about and care about. You need to do research and make sure that your articles are better than others articles. Remember there are thousands of articles on the web, you must make yours stand out.

In short, if you are looking for fast money than Hubpages is probably not for you. It is not a scam, but it does take time and work to see any earnings.

Earning Money On Hubpages

Hubpages works with Google AdSense to give you the opportunity to earn money. You are paid for clicks on ads and for page views. This means that the more traffic you get the more you will earn. It's very wise for hubbers to learn the basics of SEO and learn how to promote their hubs, as this is how you gain traffic.

As I stated above at first I was not seriously trying to make money from Hubpages, I was simply happy to have somewhere to write. Over the last year I have been taking my Hubpages account more seriously and trying to make money. I am happy to say that since I have been putting more work into it I have made hundreds of dollars on Hubpages. There are those who have made more and those who make less. It's completely up to you how much money you can make on this site.

That's one site I've never tried. I'm already spread pretty thin, so I don't think I'll add anything else to my plate.

I've been considering HubPages for a while and still am considering it. I always stay on the fence with new sites for a while because it can be intimidating. I always like to weigh the pros and cons and get to know more about a site before I jump in. Thanks for sharing your insight!

Great article Lisa. I really like where you mentioned that you have to treat Hubpages like a job if you want to earn. That is so true. I can say without a doubt that Hubpages is my favorite writing site. Not only have I earned more money on here than I have at any other writing sites, I've made some good friends and connections on here. It's truly been a great experience, and it's one that I plan on being in for the long haul. Great job! Voted up, shared, tweeted, Facebook'd, and Pinned.

I started because I was looking to make some money but now I write for pleasure and it hones my skills. I might make a few pennies eventually but it's not vital. The community and the experience is why it works for me. Interesting hub. Up etc.
