Make Money With HubPages - Getting Started Real Quick

Updated on September 5, 2014

Introduction

I was asked by one of my e-friend who frequently visits and comments on my blogs. She was asking me if someone could really make money writing short articles with HubPages. She wanted to know if I have personally earned money from it.

I told her that I was earning about $30 a month by that time. And just like what I've always told others, don't take my word for it. You have to try it. Spend some time with it. There's nothing to lose but a few of your precious time.

The next question: how do we start writing at HubPages?

This article or hub is a quick guide, a dummy's guide, or an idiot's guide, whatever you may call it, on how to get started earning money with HubPages. HubPages has its own official help guides and its forum contains tons of guides besides the stickied guides that you can refer to later.

What is a Hub?

A hub is an article about almost anything that you could think of and could write about. HubPages is not a Writer's Guild. Although being a professional writer is definitely a mammoth of an advantage, or knowing the art of writing is surely going to be an edge, HubPages is also for those who simply want to spend some of their time writing. It is a not a secret that there are "terrible" writers in HubPages who get the taste of success, if success means earning money with HubPages.

It is suggested that hubs contain at least 500 words and 800-1000 words are optimal. Do not write too short a hub as HubPages has a system of flagging hubs that are insufficient in content and automatically de-publishes them. There is nothing wrong with a very long hub but it is better to section it into several hubs and write a summary hub pointing to each separate hubs.

How is a Hub Created?

A hub is created by integrating text modules, photo or video modules, link modules, and other kinds modules. When you create a new hub, there will be a default text module and a default photo module. As a bare minimum hub, write about the topic you intend to publish into the text module. Use the photo module to upload a picture related to the topic. The picture could either be residing in your computer or you may search the internet if you do not have one readily available. When you are finished with it, click the "Publish Now" button.

Steps for Creating a Hub

Log in to your account, or sign up for one if you haven't done so. After logging in, click the "start a hub" button at the top right of the screen and the HubTool will appear.

Type in a title for your hub, select a category, select a hub template, and then click the "continue" button. Take note that there is a contextual help on the right side of the HubTool that gives suggestion on the selection of a hub title, category, and template.

Type in a summary not exceeding 170 characters of what the hub is all about. This summary is very important because when your hub eventually gets published and featured in HubPages, the search engines will index your hub for inclusion in search pages results. The hub summary is listed along with your hub title and a link to your hub in the search pages results.

Hover the mouse over the text module below the summary and click the "edit" button and start typing your introductory sentences. You may then add additional text capsules by clicking the text capsule on the right side of the HubTool. To upload a photo, do the same as with the text capsule, hover the mouse over the photo capsule and click the "edit" button. You may then upload a photo for your hub.

Add additional text capsules and photo capsules as needed. You may also want to include a video capsule, a poll capsule, and a map capsule to make your hub media-rich.

And when your done do a preview to see how your hub looks and make the necessary changes before publishing your hub.

Hit the "Publish" button!
