My Personal 31 Hubs in 28 Days Challenge

Updated on October 15, 2015

I know that the Hubpage Challenge is long over with, but I enjoy testing things out, namely myself.  When I started writing hubs for this month, I didn't even plan on conducting this test, but I was writing so often that I remembered that this Challenge had gone on in the past.

I didn't participate whenever the Hubpage Challenge was going on because I really didn't think I could produce that many hubs so quickly.  Now I realize that not only is it possible for me to complete, but I'm on pace to outdo the basic "30 Hubs in 30 Days" challenge.

So for my personal challenge or test, I'm going to complete 31 total hubs (including this one) in 28 days.

Why Am I Doing This?

Initially I thought I'd challenge myself to see if I could actually write that often, but I think there's more to be found from this "study".

I want to see how quickly you can get traffic from writing blogs or articles on Hubpages AND to see how much money you can make from it.

YES, you can make money from blogging!

If you're not a member of Hubpages yet, go here: To Sign Up for Your Hubpage Account and start making some easy money, writing about things that interest you!

All that's required of you is to write about things you like, post it to the web and then link people to your blogs and you'll start making money. Your money is earned through advertising and affiliate programs.  You don't have to link people to your blogs, but if you don't then the traffic to your blogs will come a lot slower.

I'm going to be updating this week by week to show my results, but will wait until I post the 31st hub or until the 28th day is over (whichever comes first) to post THIS HUB.

I want to show you what hubs I post each week, how much traffic I'm getting from the hubs created during this challenge and how much revenue they bring in.

***I realize that I can only show you the income brought in from ALL my hubs, but I want to see how much of a jump in income I can achieve from pumping out hubs this often.***

Week #1

So, I started out the first week with a bang and managed to write 10 hubs! I have since deleted nine of the hubs, about two years after I posted them, (the weight loss supplement hubs), but they were the last 9 hubs I wrote this week. Not a bad start at all. I'm really enjoying researching these weight loss supplement fads.

Let's take a look at this week's stats...

Total Hub Challenge Traffic for this Week: 272 Page Views

Hub with Most Traffic:

Weight Loss Fads - Part 3 - What is Colon Cleansing? (I have since deleted this)

Highest Ranked Hub: A tie between

Weight Loss Fads - Part 1 - The Reason Behind the Research (I have deleted this one as well)

&

Weight Loss Fads - Part 7 - Colon Cleanse Weight Loss Benefits (I also deleted this one)

INCOME

This Week's Adsense Income: $6.65

This Week's eBay Income: $0.00

This Week's Amazon Income: $2.20

TOTAL Income for this Week: $8.85

Alright so it was an alright week. Can't exactly live off that income but let's hope for a big spike in traffic and earnings by next week.

I'm getting a decent amount of traffic already and I haven't even advertised the Weight Loss Fad series yet. I'm waiting until I'm finished to link people to that article series.

Week #2

I slowed things down a little bit this week, but not by much. I Finally finished my weight loss fad series, moving onto a battle of the teas! I have since deleted six of the hubs, about two years after I posted them (the weight loss supplement hubs), but they were the first six hubs I wrote this week.

Let's take a look at this week's stats...

Total Hub Challenge Traffic for this Week: 509 Page Views

Hub with Most Traffic:

Help Your Kids Reconnect with Nature

Highest Ranked Hub:

Weight Loss Fads - Part 10 - Acai Berry Weight Loss Research (I have since deleted this)

INCOME

This Week's Adsense Income: $4.10

This Week's eBay Income: $0.00

This Week's Amazon Income: $2.40

TOTAL Income for this Week: $6.50

Alright so my weekly traffic to my Hub Challenge hubs has shot up a little bit, but the income has gone down. I'll have to step up my game!

Interesting to see that a hub from this week outranks all the hubs from last week. Must be a hot topic!

You can click any of the pictures on the right to view them full screen to see the screenshot proof the goes with the statistics above. Once again, I'm sorry but I had to block some information on the screenshots. It's not worth the risk of getting my accounts closed!

Week #3

I slowed things down slightly this week, but only by one hub. The battle of the teas is almost over!

Let's take a look at this week's stats...

Total Hub Challenge Traffic for this Week: 386 Page Views

Hub with Most Traffic:

Help Your Kids Reconnect with Nature

Highest Ranked Hub:

Weight Loss Fads - Part 10 - Acai Berry Weight Loss Research (I have since deleted this)

INCOME

This Week's Adsense Income: $8.41

This Week's eBay Income: $3.64

This Week's Amazon Income: $0.00

TOTAL Income for this Week: $12.05

Alright so my weekly traffic to my Hub Challenge hubs has gone down a little bit, but the income has gone up! This is the highest paying week so far and my eBay capsules finally pulled in some sales! Sad to see no Amazon sales though.

The top hubs for traffic and rank are holding steady, but the Bell Motivator hub is really getting some good traffic for only being a week old!

You can click any of the pictures on the right to view them full screen to see the screenshot proof the goes with the statistics above. Once again, I'm sorry but I had to block some information on the screenshots. It's not worth the risk of getting my accounts closed!

Week #4

Alright I've gotten a little burnt out on writing hubs so I'm going to take tomorrow off. It looks like I outdid myself anyway! But just so you know, I did delete the third hub I wrote this week (about two years after I wrote it), it was a review on a pedometer.

I managed to complete 32 hubs in 27 days!

It's a lot of work especially if you want to advertise and write quality content, but I think it will be worth it in the long run. I deleted one of the hubs (Bowflex SelectTech 552 Dumbbells Review) a few years after I published it, but it was the first hub I wrote for this week.

Let's get right into the stats...

Total Hub Challenge Traffic for this Week: 508 Page Views

Hub with Most Traffic:

Bell Motivator Indoor Bicycle Trainer Review

A Tie Between The Highest Ranked Hubs:

Help Your Kids Reconnect with Nature

&

My Personal 31 Hubs in 28 Days Challenge

INCOME

This Week's Adsense Income: $8.35

This Week's eBay Income: $0.98

This Week's Amazon Income: $0.00

TOTAL Income for this Week: $9.33

So it wasn't a bad week compared to the others. I got the second highest amount of weekly traffic, by one page view. This week also ended up being second in weekly income. It seems like it's hit or miss with whether or not you'll make sales on eBay or Amazon.

The Bell Motivator review is really bringing in some constant traffic. I think this winter weather is helping with that; that item is perfect for this time of year.

I find it funny that my first and my last hubs are my highest ranked right now!

Changes to be Made to Maximize Earning Potential

I will say one thing before I go into my "changes to be made", if you want to be successful with Adsense, then using HubPages is one of the best ways to do it!

I had been trying to make Adsense work for me with my own personal sites for 20 months before coming to HubPages. 20 months and I hadn't even earned my first Adsense check. Then I joined HubPages and in 11 months I had my first paycheck from Adsense, and haven't had a month under $3 since I joined!

It sadly took me 31 months to earn my first check from Adsense! So I made changes... and I got my second check in 10 months, I made more changes... and I got my third check in 7 months, then I did this personal challenge...

This is the first time I've ever gotten a check from Adsense with only 5 months of traffic! Not amazing, but a big jump for me! This month was also the highest I've EVER earned in a month with Adsense.

HubPages and my readers know that I put out quality content, but there's one thing I know I lack.

I NEED MORE TRAFFIC!

I know a lot of people on here are earning enough to have HubPages be their job, so I'm turning to you.

If you have any suggestions on where I can get quality backlinks for FREE, then let me know in the comment section below.

I'm not going to pay for links, but I'm sure you can suggest many different places I never thought of where I can post links to my hubs. I think that once I improve my traffic, the rest will improve too.  If you have any other suggestions, don't be afraid to share!

Closing Thoughts

All in all I'd have to say that putting out quality hubs often is the way to go.

You don't have to pump them out as fast as I did during this test but keep them coming and the money will start building up.

HubPages must like something that I did because during this personal challenge I finally managed to earn a HubPage rank of 100!

In fact, I was ranked 100 at least 3 days during this month.

So I'm making some progress and I managed to make almost $10 more in 28 days than I did in last month's 31 days. That's a decent jump, but not amazing.

So, some changes need to be made (see text to the right).

You really can make good money blogging on topics that interest you.

And think about it, once you put out enough quality blogs, get enough links coming into your blogs and monetize them correctly you'll be able to sit back and make money from them week after week!

I definitely burnt myself out writing blogs this month, but I'll be able to reap the benefits from this month's blogs from here on out.

Once you build up a big enough of a following, you won't have to write that many blogs that often to be able to earn a steady income.

In fact, I know some people on here stop writing hubs for a long time and just relax while the money keeps coming in!

If you enjoy writing on topics you're passionate about, then maybe blogging for money is something you'd be good at.

I really enjoy helping others and I feel like there's so many different ways you can help people through writing.

So if your aim is to change lives with your writing, then show people something they haven't seen before and start pumping out those hubs!

One Month Later...

I have decided to update my earning & traffic stats a month after I did my Hub Challenge as requested by revybaby.

First let's look at the traffic...

In the past month I have continued to write at a steady pace, but what I want to focus on mainly is the traffic my Hub Challenge hubs have gotten a month later.

I was surprised to find that they got 1,582 page views and that's without me doing any advertising at all this month for those hubs! I did all my advertising last month and I'm still getting a pretty good amount of views without me having to do anything. In fact, that's only 149 views less than last month, when I was doing a lot of advertising.

And as you can see from my Hubpages stats, my overall traffic has continued to rise. I'd love to soon get my views over 600 daily views on average.

I didn't actually end up with a hub score of 100 at all this month, but I was ranked as a 99 for a handful of days. Those are the days you'll notice that you're getting a lot of followers.

Now let's took a look at this month's income...

Adsense Earnings: $43.22

I was very pleased with this month's Adsense earnings; it's the most I've ever made in a month with Adsense! That's $15.02 more than last month. And I even made $5.66 more than last month's TOTAL income, from Adsense alone! My goal is to be able to get another paycheck after April, we'll see how things go.

eBay Earnings: $14.98

Another pleasant surprise when I checked my eBay earnings! I'm not sure if I've ever made that much with eBay in a month. That's $10.22 more than I made last month! I must be doing something right in that area. I'll have to see if I can outdo that this month.

Amazon Earnings: $3.32

Not as amazing as the other incomes but at least it's still bringing in some money. That's only $1.28 less than last month but I'll have to work on optimizing hubs better to bring that income up this month.

TOTAL INCOME for March: $61.52

That's $23.96 more than I made last month! Not too bad at all.

I'm now going to take a break from writing for a while and see how well the "set it and forget it" method actually works for HubPages blogs. I'm going to let all the advertising I set in place, my keywords and titles do all the work while I sit and wait for the money to come in.

The only thing I plan on doing this month is going through all the hubs that I've written before the Hub Challenge and editing them to optimize their earning potential. I plan on:

  • Writing more attractive titles, so that people can't resist clicking them
  • Editing text and pictures so that it's easier to read and more organized
  • Making the ad capsules more relevant to the hub content and making sure the background is blue so that they stand out more
  • Adding a question to the comment capsule's title to entice more people to comment
  • Updating the news capsule for more relevant articles
  • Replying to any comments that I haven't already replied to
  • Using Google's Keyword Tool to find better keywords to tag each hub with, ones that get a lot of searches
  • Adding videos to add more content on the topic of the hub

So you shouldn't see me post much of anything for the month of April but I will be refining what I've done in the past.

I'll report back in a month and let you know what my traffic and earnings looks like for April, to truly see how well the hubs will perform on their own without me doing anything.

Two Months Later...

Alright, this is the last update I will be making to this hub. I wanted to see how my hubs would perform overall without me doing a drop of advertising.

I only posted a measly 3 hubs for the entire month of April and didn't advertise for any of them, I promise!

I spent the entire month editing hubs as I said I would above and let me tell you, it has helped a lot as you'll see from this month's results.

First let's look at the traffic for the hub challenge hubs...

I was surprised to find that they still got 1,278 page views and that's without me doing any advertising at all this month for those hubs! I did all my advertising two months ago and I'm still getting a pretty good amount of views without me having to do anything.

And as you can see from my Hubpages stats, my overall traffic has continued to rise. I'm now averaging over 600 page views a day! So this hub challenge has pretty much helped me double my daily traffic.

Now let's took a look at this month's income...

Adsense Earnings: $51.49

I was very pleased with this month's Adsense earnings; it's the most I've ever made in a month with Adsense! That's $8.27 more than last month. I was soooo close to getting another paycheck this month; only a few dollars off. That would have been the first time I've been paid after two months of earnings, but ah well just means I'll get a bigger check next month.

eBay Earnings: $11.18

Not as amazing as last month but still bringing in some money. I wasn't able to outdo last month but when I look at my stats it seems that almost every time someone clicks through to eBay a sale is made. You can't really complain about that!

Amazon Earnings: $20.59

Amazon really surprised me this month! This is the most I've ever earned in a month from Amazon. That's $17.27 more than last month!

TOTAL INCOME for April: $83.26

That's $21.74 more than I made last month! Which is the most I've ever made in a month with HubPages! And that's with no advertising at all...

All I did was tweak my really old hubs using the guidelines I mentioned above and I posted 3 hubs this month, that's it!

So, as you can see, you really can "set it and forget it" and continue to bring income from all your old blogs. If you want to make even more cash just follow the steps that I mentioned I was going to do last month. They really help!

***HAPPY HUBBING***
