Pin this! Best Nights to Use Pinterest

Updated on April 7, 2012

My Experience with Pinterest & Other Social Networks

Ok, first off let me start by saying that I have no proven statistical data to back up my claims, but my observations do come from a background of over 10 years as a web professional, mostly in design and development and 6 consecutive weeks as a blogger on HubPages.

I've also dabbled a bit in social media. As a (tech-savvy) woman in her early thirties, social networking still kinda freaks me out. It can feel so invasive. Yet, it's super convenient and you can stay in touch with so many more people. Here's what I have used:

Facebook

Facebook is probably my most personal account because of the privacy settings, mainly I use it for keeping in touch with close friends, family, & colleagues.

What is a Hashtag?

For those who are unaware, a hashtag is when you add the # symbol in front of a word or short phrase, #likethis or #this #instagramtips.

Instagram

If you love photography and you have an iPhone, you have to check out Instagram.

Instagram Tip
Don't forget to use hashtags when posting pictures with keyword descriptions of your photos so you can search for people sharing images with similar interests.

♥ Social Media Emoticons ☺

I can never remember which social networks will accept code or the keyboard shortcuts to make hearts and smiley faces in my status updates, so I always have to search, copy & paste. Now, I know where to find them: ♥ ☺

Twitter

I've got a love/hate thing going on with twitter. Twitter is typing or texting a thought, question, statement, idea, etc in 140 characters or less to our virtual world.

You can follow others to see what they have to say at any given moment, it's real-time and has become a source of breaking news in recent years. But, it moves fast and I never really have time for it. I mostly enjoy it while watching t.v. #community #parksandrec #theoffice

Pinterest: Time of Day Poll

When do you most often explore pinterest?

See results

Pinterest Paradise

Oh right, exactly why I started this hub. Pinterest is by far my favorite social network at the moment. Especially on an iPad. Give me a Tuesday night while my husband is at woodworking class, my kids are in bed, a glass of wine, my feet up and I am in Pinterest Paradise.

What is Pinterest?

Pinterest is a visual based social network. It's kind of like visiting a museum. You can explore rooms (boards) to your favorite galleries (categories), glance at a description or two, and you often have the option to follow the picture to a blog, online store, or photo gallery for more information.

Using Pinterest

'like', 'repin', 'comment'

Tap the 'like' button and store the photo for your own reference at a later date, leave a comment for the person that originally shared the pin, or repin the image to one of your own boards.

Creating Boards on Pinterest, a Few Random Ideas:

  • Getting married?
Create a my wedding board and scour the internet for your dream wedding colors, flowers, & dress ideas.

  • Buying a House?
Build a home decor board filled with tips on budget decorating, practical storage, wall colors, and amazing furniture.

  • Crafty?
Check out the DIY+crafts category for a dose of instant inspiration.

Why I Like Pinterest

For me, pinterest is the most fun social network to interact with. I am a creative person, I am energenized by artistry, and I am easily motivated to create handmade and homemade objects or take on 'do it yourself' projects.

Pinterest: Day of the Week Poll

If you pin your hubs, what day have you seen the best immediate results?

See results

I joined Pinterest a few months ago and HubPages 6 weeks ago. I started pinning some of my vegetarian recipes to a 'my favorite vegetarian recipes' board on pinterest. Many of which, have been repinned multiple times. I have gained followers and have begun to see a sustained flow of traffic from my hubs that have been pinned.

My top three evenings for pinning on pinterest have been:

  1. Tuesday
  2. Wednesday
  3. Sunday

What Are Your Thoughts on Pinterest?

So, I made you read a lot to get my advice on the best nights to use pinterest, based on a short lived experience, but I'd like to know what others have experienced to see whether or not there is something to my theory. I will also plan to keep this hub updated with my observations and findings.
