Some Observations

Some Observations on Reaching 50,000 Visitors

====================

On March 8, 2012, I passed the milestone of having 10,000 visitors to my hub pages. . For the record, I had been publishing for 202 days, had published 163 hubs and had 359 followers. based on my experience up until then, I made ten observations.

=====================

On July, 31,2012, I had 25,115 visitors so I am updating my observations. At that point I had published 252 hubs and I had 515 followers.

=====================

On November 18, 2012, I had 50,054 visitors, I had published 265 Hubs and I had 556 followers so I am updating my observations once again.

=====================

1. Some hubs attract far more visitors than you would expect them to. (NO CHANGE)

My second highest volume hub is about opera singers, my highest volume hub is a recipe for a Chinese stir-fry dish and my third highest volume hub is about how to use up leftovers. I would not have predicted this, yet they acount for about ten percent of all of my visitors.

-----------------------------------

2. There are unexpected seasonal effects. (NO CHANGE)

Just before New Years, one of my hubs with "New Years" in the title spiked more than 50 visitors in one day and continued to do well for several days. Thanksgiving recipes do well just before Thanksgiving. You get the idea.

-----------------------------------

3- The number of visitors to my hubs is highly dependent upon whether or not I keep publishing hubs. (NOT ALWAYS)

Recently, the number of visitors did not decline greatly even when I didn't publish a hub. I believe that the reason is that I am currently getting more traffic from search engines than from HubPages.One possible explanation is that I recently went through an extensive program of revising and updating my existing hubs. I currently spend more time updating an improving existing Hubs than I do writing new ones.

------------------------------------------------------------

4. Encouraging other hubbers to follow you helps to increase the number of visitors to your site. (NO CHANGE)

I hop hubs every day and follow those hubbers who have similar interests. Normally, they then follow me too. When I started out, I usually only had to hop 5-6 hubs to find two that I wanted to follow. Now, sometimes I have to hop 20 or more. I am currently far more selective about who I follow.

--------------------------------------------------------------

5. Unless you specifically write your hubs to sell merchandise on Amazon and Ebay, your earnings there will be minimal. (NO CHANGE)

Thus far I have earned $1.60 on Amazon based on four sales and $.89 on Ebay. (Both totals changed slightly)

----------------------------------------------------

6. It pays to review your hub statistics on a regular basis and update your poor performing hubs. (HERE IS WHERE I SAW A BIG DIFFERENCE)

About once a week, I order my hubs by the number of visitors that they had in the past 30 days. I then review those without any visits and try to update them to make them more attractive. Once a month, I order them by total number of visits and re-write or add material to the five lowest ones. (About 4 months ago, I started revieviewing my hubs and updating about five each day. My earnings and the number of visitors to my hubs more than tripled. I cover how to do this in my hub How to Keep your Existing Hubs Evergreen.)

-----------------------------------------------------

7. When writing hubs, it helps if you organize them into groups and eventually into sub groups. (NO CHANGE)

Not only does this help you to keep track of your existing hubs, but it will also help you to develop topics for future hubs.

------------------------------------------------------

8. Ultimately, your earnings will be highly dependent upon getting traffic from search engines and sources other than from other hubbers. (NO CHANGE)

Based on my own personal experience, your fellow hubbers may drive up the number of your visitors, but they will rarely if ever stop to buy something. For the most part, I don’t even look at the advertisements when I hop hubs. I am only interested in the content of the hub and the author’s profile and interests.

-----------------------------------------------------

9. The rate at which your earnings from Google Adsense / HubPages increase is proportional to the rate at which the number of your readers increase. The table below shows the number of visitors by month and the total earnings for the same months. As you can see, the earnings per thousand visitors are relatively constant.

----------------------------------------------------------

10. Dealing with Google/Adsense is extremely frustrating but you have no choice because it is the only game in town. (NO CHANGE)

Several months back my daughter changed her account on Google G-mail and then promptly lost her password. Since all Google accounts are linked, it also screwed up my Google Adsense account. I lost access to my account although it continues to accumulate earnings on HubPages. For months I have tried to re-establish my access to Adsense without success. You cannot call them, you cannot Email them and when you try to follow their help instructions it runs you in circles until you give up in desperation. I am still trying.
