Why don't HubPagers use their real or pen name? When they write a novel - by werdz52? spYkeDriver?
Why not use a constant name and plan on a future of being a novelist? This would be a way to build a fanbase from the beginning. Why even create a pen name? (Like Mark Twain.) To avoid any taxes on royalties from your writing? They find out your real name eventually when you get famous (notice I use the word "when..") It seems I've made a grave error by just being... me. The nerve I have, eh? Breaking tradition and all the rules... again!
They can't really avoid the taxes because they have to report their real name along with their pen name. To sign up for AdSense or any other program, you have to give them your SSN and that has to match the name on the checks (or direct deposit, etc). So unless they're real criminals and created a complete new identity (with a falsified SSN), the IRS will still get their cut. I'm sure they have their reasons for creating a username other than their real one or writing novels under a different name, but I'm sticking to my real name.
Thanks, Ms. Sheila. Tax questions asked with 100% tongue-in-cheek but actually glad I got a straight answer. Nice of you to take the time.
Already Dan Miller horror writer. Only Dan W. Miller on fb, (two w/out period) only "W" on twitter.
In my case, I don't want just anyone on the internet to know my real name. Even if by some miracle I became a famous writer, I would try very hard to keep my true identity a secret. Although, as you point out, that would be near impossible in this day and age. In my opinion, success would be great, but fame would be a curse.
I'll take that chance (knowing the odds are astronomical.) However , I did a lot of stage time and comedy show producing in the 5th largest city - Phoenix. Didn't even bother with hiding from the beginning. thx mgeorge.

What are your thoughts on this? I do use a pen name and I'm really torn about it. On the one hand it's convenient so that my private/public life are kept separate and I find I don't have to censor myself while writing. On the other hand, I sometimes wonder if I am not cheating...

I am considering publishing a novel under a pen name. I'd like to set up author pages where it is published. Where can I find a legal photo of someone else that I can use as the image that goes with my pen name author profile? Thanks!
