What the hell happened to traffic

I've seen all the "lost traffic" threads before, but mine had not been drastically impacted.

    But now...Wow,  Starting on Friday, 9/28 mine took a 90% hit - yep 90%

Hubs that were getting a few hundred a day are now getting 10 - 30

Damn... I've been slapped and will never know why. Going to have to move everything now.

Well, there's still the forums for breaks, I guess

Was September 27th the first time Google crawled your subdomain with the new HubPages format?

My subdomain got crawled on the 24th. My traffic returned on the 26th. It fell again drastically on the 28th, but hubs that have not seen traffic in over a year are still getting hits, even now.

All my other 9 subdomains were decimated.

It could only happen to me sad

It was either the algo change, or it was the HP change, or in my case it could have been the unpublication of all my health hubs, which I did a few days before.

We should all know in a few days which it was.

Hello cat that ate the owl,

What do you mean "the unpublication of all my health hubs?"

Oh man you have not kept your eye on the forums, because I did report it.

I unpublished all my health hubs on this subdomain, because I had a sneaking suspicion that one of the reasons this sub got slapped was because of my health hubs.

I am a health professional. I am also a keen gardener. I have had many jobs in my life (since I left the NHS), and  I have learned to be an internet marketer too. And I write on a huge variety of topics.

So I had a mix of sales hubs, which I was starting to do very nicely from, and a mix of what I would term 'serious hubs'.

My account was slapped severely in August 2011, and it never recovered.

So round about the October, I started a second subdomain. It did well at first (with the same mix of hubs), then it got slapped too. This particular sub gets traffic for a month or two, then it stops for two or three months, then comes back again.

            Then I started niche subdomains.

All my niche subs had no probs at all, until my Health niche got hit.

It only had 9 hubs. No sales capsules to talk off, no short, unfinished, rife with spelling mistakes articles that Google would want to slap. Never mind Google, I'd want to slap any health article that isn't accurate!

When it got slapped (out of all my subs, because as I said already I am a health professional) I began to suspect something was wrong with the Health topic.

Not just began, it was in my mind already because we have doctors publishing here that have come to the forums wondering why netdoctor.org or whoever, with inaccurate information, are ranking above them.

Then, just a week or so ago, the weekly topic inspiration was Health.

Everyone was writing stuff, and some of it was great, I mean really great, stuff from people who had been there done it, wrote the book.

Others were really good, knowledgeable stuff from health professional types.

Yet others were crap, from people chasing keywords.

People with no interest, knowledge or capability of writing a decent hub around a topic.

That was when it suddenly occurred to me that health hubs, no matter how well-written, are only as good as those they are linked to.

Would you trust this site with your credit card?

Health hubs are gone. I still have a couple of pregnancy hubs; they relate to user experience and are possibly given a "Get-out-of-jail-free" card.

So there you are, you asked a question, and now you know how easy it is to write a longish hub. LOL

Would you trust this site with your credit card?

I actually took that to mean " Are your hubs generating sales for our advertisers?"

No but really, you must have seen some of the pathetic attempts the Nigerians made.Oh Hell why blame the Nigerians when they could just have easily been from any country in the world.

No I do see Google's problem.

But when it comes to health issues, I want trusted information.

I don't really want it from Hubpages, unless they are telling me what I want to hear.

Even then, when I learn that what I wanted  to hear is a load of crap, I want Google to take me back to trusted sites that will tell me the truth.

People dying with cancer, who have never been online in their life, may take comfort from a hub telling them that their cancer can be reversed.

Hubpages, up until very recently, had a lot of those hubs.

They played on people. The weren't even true.

Us next generation hubbers will pay the price.

I see what you mean (I'm always a bit cynical about G and their attempts to maximise profits) I never write about serious health related issues, ever, because I wouldn't know what I was talking about. The only time I ever delve into that realm is if I've discovered something that alleviates my son's eczema or some minor issue of which I've had some experience.

If you mean new profile format --- I don't know, but it's possible, since I didn't change my profile format until the system did it last week (or so)

        Interesting thought though...

Part of Friday there was a systems crash that took down the entire site for what may have been several hours.  But clearly that doesn't cover all you are seeing.

You are right Relache - that's what first I thought when I saw the stats on Friday - but alas, it continued through today

Now Writer Fox's question about new profile format and most recent crawl have me wondering

I agree with you GA, Friday is long gone, it being Monday afternoon where I live, I feel like my traffic is on a fast down slide.  The Friday "thing" did not effect me that day nor all weekend, but today, whoa, lost over 500 hits in one day.  What now???

Ya, I'm having the same problem... I lost over half of my traffic, and the numbers seem to still be falling. One of my hubs that was my best performing hub has lost most of its traffic so I'm assuming it's a google algo update. If it keeps falling like this I won't have any traffic left!

    Strange.

My health hubs go up and down, but have not had any lasting traffic losses and are potentially gaining right now.

I am in the same boat.  It seemed that ever since hubpages had that crash I lost a ton of traffic.  I went from seeing up arrows on all of my hubs to down arrows.  I wish I had an answer, if there is one.  It seems to be getting much more difficult to get traffic, no matter how much promoting you do.  Hopefully it will get better soon!
