I have an issue with my summaries. I checked my pages listings from OUTSIDE my account - by logging out at looking at the list of hubs I've written. All the listings don't show the "summary text" they show the LAST X words of each hub.
E.g. here's how one hub appears in the listings

Whereas the "Summary text" done manually sppears like this:
Popular Pubic Hair Styles as a hub went only so far... it focussed on the Ladygardeners among us. BUT... "A man's gotta do what a man's gotta do," they say – and that used to be a simple motto to live...
I do think that all my hubs seem to have the BOTTOM of each hub quoted in listings which looks truly awful. Why is this? What is the point of us doing summary texts if they won't be used in listings?
I can't even change this because it's not the VERY last X words that gets quoted, it seems to be the last few words of the penultimate text capsule and the first few words of the last text capsule. Which seems pointless as we can't make sure we write something good here for broswers.
Am I missing something here and getting something wrong?
It's worse in some listings as it seems to show a list of completely random bits of text and bits of headings of capsules . I found one poor user where it seemed to have the image credits as her snapshot text!

It doesn't seem at all likely we will encourage readers if we show them garbled nonsense in the listings when they search for a particular topic on hubpages. It just looks awful.
Hi Julie-Ann,
I tested it out and I was not able to reproduce your problem.
HubPages recently changed the search functionality. So, if you use either the Search Box on the top by typing for example "Julie-Ann Amos" or if you use the Search Box on your profile page, then the search is using the text of your article and not the summary.
To see that your summary is working correctly, try using this link
To get there, I went to your profile page, then I selected the "Advice" tag. I also tested other tags to verify that summary is displayed correctly.
If you are getting to the listing in a way other than the search box, just let me know.
Thanks,
-Larry
Ok what I did was NOT logged in as me, I visted HP as a visitor, and went to my profile page. The articles there had the issue.
I then searched for a tag I know I have (e.g. pubic hair) and saw the same issue - here's the text displayed on others' profiles as well as mine - I can do a screen grab but don't know how to post an image in a forum message. ALL these summaies seem random text from within their hubs.
My hub in this case is the second one. This is the text I see "... hairstyling, ladies. The Root Of The Problem: Puberty And Pubic Hair Around about puberty, we ... ladygardens instantly shot to no 1 in the pubic hairstyles fashion charts! "Some magazines have ... Hair Styles as a hub went only so far... it focussed on ... " which is random snippets of text and NOT the summary I have on the hub.
Does that make sense? Thanks as always for looking at this (shouldn't you be sleeping off the big categories job?)

Hi Julie-Ann,
In the example you gave, you are using the results from a SEARCH.
The new search at HubPages (see here) uses article text instead of the summary and presents excerpts with highlights of the keywords.
To see the SUMMARY of the article, you need to click on a tag directly. If you go through the tags or through links on the topic page, you will see that the Summary gets used.
For example, here is the view from clicking on the "Advice" tag (see here) will give you a listing that uses the summary.

I'm having the same problem as Julie-Ann. I posted something in the forum about it, but it looks like i have my answer LarryFreeman, thankyou. Can it be changed to reflect the summary text as it really looks awful when you're viewing your hub description and it's all a mash up...
Thankyou
That makes sense Larry.
I'd still prefer to see the summary shown but can see what happened here.
