Well I guess I am completely frustrated.   I cannot get approved for an Ad sense account.   So I tried to sign up for Amazon Affiliates program.   On my earnings page under settings, External Affiliate Settings, there is only the Google Ad Sense, no Amazon Affiliate to click on.    I followed the instructions to the letter, and according to Amazon I am an affiliate.   But when I try to copy and past the HMTL code into a text capsule on a Hub page, it says it has to "clean it up", or cancel.   So I click clean it up, and there is nothing.    Are the tutorials outdated?   Is Google Ad Sense the only option I have?   I'm getting a lot of traffic to a page that I know I could be making $ with.

You only have nine Hubs, all of which are younger than six weeks old.  Of course you aren't getting approved for AdSense.  You need more content, somewhere along the lines of three to four dozen Hubs.

As for how the site works and the affiliate programs, there are walk-thru guides in the Learning Center.

I had the same trouble getting my Amazon External Affiliates set up on HP.  The tutorials showing the Amazon link are out of date and I had the same question posted here to no avail.  But, I figured it out.

To get the Amazon link under External Affiliates, type in the following link:

    hubpages.com/my/earnings/affiliate/amazon

That should make the Amazon link instantly appear under the Adsense link and you can click on it and then on the next page, enter you Amazon Affiliates code.

Once your Affiliates code is entered and saved, you no longer need to be concerned with it, just add product links into your hub and HP will automatically assign your Affiliate code when the link is clicked on in your hub.  Has been working for me.

    Hope that helps!

      Westcoastwife,

Thank you!   I was able to get the Amazon Affiliate on my external affiliate link on my settings page under earning.

Can you clarify for my exactly how I apply the link to the specific product from amazon that I want to put in my Hub?    I try to copy the HTML code, and I still get the clean up response and then nothing.

    Try this:
Just add your amazon affiliate links to your hubs using the amazon affiliate portal directly. You can add a maximum of 2 links per hubpage. Meanwhile you will keep on earning directly via amazon affiliate program. Later when you have enough hubpages you may apply for other hubpages earning programs.

You're welcome for the tip on getting the External Affiliate link operational, I had the same problem as you and was not receiving any help in the forums.  I actually got the link info from a friend of mine who has been hubbin' for a few years.

As for the product links, I have not experienced any problems myself.  I just find the product I wish to use, copy the entire HTML code from my browser bar, paste into the amazon product bar and then select the "preview Amazon result" tab to make sure the correct product is linked and save it.  When I click that preview link, the HTML gets automatically shortened.

Sorry I can't help more on this one.
